Sirenette Music Industries, Inc., is owned by John and Becky Wolff, and is based in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. John Wolff, owner and president of Sonic Cathedral, Inc., started SMI because he saw a need for dependable representation for bands in our favorite femme-mania genre.
The Past
When Sonic Cathedral was founded in 2001, almost no one carried a decent selection of female vocal titles. Sure, you could get country, pop rock, or even dance and hip-hop. But nowhere could you find more than 1 or 2 titles in the current Sonic Cathedral catalog.
John got a taste of Lacuna Coil’s In A Reverie, Nightwish’s Oceanborn, and Theatre of Tragedy’s Aegis, to name a few, and was thoroughly enchanted. He couldn’t get enough. He searched the World Wide Web for months and months. He ordered many titles, mostly bands that he had never heard of. As long as it had a female lead singer it was good enough for him.
After a 2-year ordering fiasco, during which he became increasingly perturbed about the crappy service, and the total lack of customer service, he grew to despise the inept music websites. You could order all the CDs you wanted…wait several weeks for your order to arrive…and discover that only a few of the titles that you ordered are actually available and in the box. He got frustrated with the notes on the invoices, like "back order", or "special order", or even simply "out of stock".
So why were these titles listed on the sites in the first place? Why could orders for these items be placed, if the items were not available? John did a lot of searching and found that this was almost a common practice in the industry.
Well, the rest is history, as far as Sonic Cathedral is concerned. Currently Sonic Cathedral is the industry leader in Female Vocal Music, and offers over 1,100 titles in stock and ready to ship anywhere.
The Present
The next logical step, and the desired end result of 5 years of blood, sweat and tears, was to start a record label to support our femme metal genre. Therefore, in early 2006, Sirenette Music Industries was founded, and began a small revolution in the way music labels operate.
The debut band on the SMI label, Sylver Myst, was signed in February of 2006 to record and release their first full-length CD entitled Emotions Revealed. Recorded in the prestigious Excess Studios in Rotterdam, Holland, this release is the culmination of years of work on behalf of the band members, and promises to be a huge success for all parties involved.
The Future
SMI has numerous projects planned for 2008. We are currently considering several bands for licensing opportunities, and even a few for the SMI label. We will keep you posted as things evolve.
Cooperation with Sonic Cathedral
SMI will be coordinating with SC on the release of the next Sonic Cathedral "Sirens" sampler due out in early 2008. We are considering bands for this project now, so please contact us or Sonic Cathedral for more details. The "Sirens" debut sampler featured: Epica, After Forever, Asrai, the Gathering, Madder Mortem, Amaran, Aina, Peccatum, Crisis & others.
