Marnie Black, Communications Countess, a native New Yorker, hits all of the high notes, and is one of the top spin doctors (a.k.a. PR) for MTV. Growing up, Marnie sang professionally in venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. She gave it all up in college and has been singing for pleasure ever since.
Randi Stanley, Viscountess of Virtuosity, a native New Yorker by birth who moved to Florida at the ripe age of 3 and has probably met everyone’s grandparents in the Sunshine State at some point. She’s been singing in all female a cappella groups since age 16 and has dabbled in piano, music theater and concert choirs in between. She worked at major record labels for a few years, and now is in the midst of her quarter-life crisis to seek the perfect career as a freelancer in marketing and writing. She also runs NYC A Cappella, an arranging service.
Rachel Wallins, Gigging Goddess Extraordinaire, (and formerly our only blond) is a New York transplant from Moscow, Idaho (not too many people can boast that!). She works in the dairy department at MTV where she is a big cheese in charge of all things relating to Organizational Development. She’s also a gifted cellist, a not-so-gifted pianist, a frankly unfortunate trombonist, and the official Sirens comedienne. In her spare time, Rachel volunteers as a wedding planner and circus clown, and reads no less than forty-five entertainment magazines daily.
Allison Lasky, Marquesa of Musicality, another native New Yorker, is thrilled to be singing a cappella for the first time with the Sirens. Allison sang throughout high school and college in musical theatre productions and many classical choirs. After graduating from Indiana University, Allison moved back to New York and became a music teacher. Although Allison loves singing children’s songs all day with her students, she is so happy to finally be singing with adults again!
Jessica Greif, Empress of Euphony, was born and raised in Columbia, Maryland, a planned community that just celebrated its 40th birthday. She has been performing in musicals and vocal ensembles since the age of seven, most recently with the Amherst College Bluestockings, New York Madrigal Ensemble, and Loose Interpretations East. When she’s not trying to hit that low note, Jessica can be found teaching smaller people how to speak other languages and tending to the small menagerie that has taken up residence in her home and heart.
The Sirens are an all-female a cappella sextet, who have been singing together since the Fall of 2000 and have built a diverse and fun repertoire, based on music we love and love to sing and, happily, this seems to coincide with what our audience enjoys! Our musical style is broad and ranges from classics like "Moon River" to modern hits by Sarah McLachlan, Radiohead, and Robbie Williams. No matter what the audience, the Sirens promise a good time will be had by all.
