About me:
The 1st December 2007 is the 20th anniversary (to the day!) of Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen being forced to resign from his position as Queensland Premier.
Celebrate the occasion with a gig featuring bands and speakers at The Jubilee Hotel, 470 St Paul's Terrace (Brisbane, Australia). Doors open at 4pm, Saturday 1 December 2007. Entry is $10/$15.
Why commemorate the anniversary of Bjelke-Petersen's resignation?
Some of the more infamous activities occurring during Bjelke-Petersen's reign included:
- a gerrymander electoral system,
- attacks on the arts, unions, indigenous rights, environment, cultural landmarks, and freedom of speech and public assembly rights,
- police force involvement in illegal drugs, prostitution and gambling.
