Rock n' Roll, if it was made to shake you about, move you around and put up a fight. Then take you home with a sense of "f*ck yeah", subsequently sending you into a lulled peyote sleep, promptly violating your dreams with Owls, baseball bats, journeys to Prague and a sense of urgency when it comes the jungle and firework displays when no-one watches.
Sirkus Saigon are a multinational-Mancunian, rock four-piece, a strong rejuvenating presence on the diverse Chorlton Green band scene. Characterised by warm percussive groove, crisp retro licks and a very Manc artschool- hooliganism, Sirkus have won themselves an expansive family of supporters, who rate them for their captivating performances and driving progression.
Sirkus Saigon band members have a list of previous bands: R.A.V., Flown, Akoga, Rhyst, Solus, Angelesque, where they cut their teeth, and members are currently involved in several projects. Sirkus Saigon is very much the common ground for the four members, where they can push themselves and test the water.
Sirkus Saigon’s sound has kept the hard driving edge but has evolved into something subtlety dark, laced with beats and melody, delving increasingly into experimentalism.
"Live performance is where Sirkus Saigon really get to work and Simon's energetic showmanship brings the whole show together. Building a strong Mancunian cult following, pushing their self produced demos into the laps of radio stations and fanzines... ...currently building on their diverse influences with new material."
Sirkus Saigon as described in "The Steamroller"
"Everyone these days wants you to listen to their band. Everyone will tell you that they’re the next big thing, something you’ve never heard before, unique, you don’t want to miss this, blah blah blah. Everyone’s ready to say whatever needs to be said to get their band known, its all about the big time baby, which ironically makes it difficult for those bands that actually deserve the recognition to get any.
So it makes it difficult when you find a band like Manchester’s Sirkus Saigon. A band that use nothing but their funky take on rock n roll, daft song titles, and dangerous live sets and let you make up your own mind. Venezuelan front man Simon Chavez seems right at home jumping around the stage whilst letting lead guitarist, Beds, flick smoothly between their eclectic mix reggae, funk, ambient and rock licks.
In the year since a quirky Icelandic drinking hole helped give them their name, it would seem that people are starting to take note, with the band featuring on Channel 4s unsigned search and having their second demo, PeeWeeDubDub gain regular airplay on The Revolutions Sunday night Coogans Bluff. So it would seem that while with the Artic Monkeys we were told ‘Not to Believe The Hype’, it would seem in the case of Sirkus Saigon its ‘Don’t Need The Hype.’ "
