Sisters in Strength is a paid community internship program for teen women ages 15-19. The young women develop leadership and mentoring abilities by assisting in running the Urban Leaders After-School program. The participants learn to be agents of social change by deciding on, planning, and implementing a grassroots organizing project. They also participate in skills-building workshops to receive assistance in applying to college, increase their financial literacy, and become more informed about political and social issues that affect them.
OMG The PAR trip to the poconos was sooo much fun. We should definitely do it again. It was a great learning experience; the meeting was very informative. The best part of the meeting was when we played with some examples of research methods (i.e. the Focus Groups and Personal Interviews.) I enjoyed spending time learning more about the SIS members. I will always remeber when we sat down roasted the marshmellows and told our crazy stories in the dimmed light. I will specially remember afterwards when Mandy shut off all the lights in the house by "accident" (NOT COOL!!!) I think all the girls are very diverse and different. But somehow we all can sit down and relate to each other on levels that we never expected. Everyone in the group is mad cool!!! MUAHZZZ V3R0N1C@
