Six City Stompers just released the record "Work Around The Rules" and here is Nulles comments: (A legendary danish clarinet player) "Is is around half a century ago, since the so-called Revival Jazz made its way to Denmark. Several jazz bands were formed and jazz clubs sprang up like mushrooms. Very often, the different bands had a similar repertoire, since their tunes were usually basen on the records available at the time. Time went by and new genres emerged. Discotheques started to grow up and several of the clubs had to close down. The same happened for many of the orchestras, and except from a few professional bands, the older jazz was left to more or less fundamentalistic amateurs - the so-called "schoolmaster orchestras", who played "beer jazz" on saturdays. Hence, the renewal of the genre was almost non-existing. Then suddenly, just as you thought all hope was lost, they were here: Six City Stompers - in fact, they have been here since 2004, An ensemble with an incredible ear for music, a respekt for the roots, a personal interpretation of the old tunes and on top of that with an extra present for all of us, consisting of six original compositions ! Damn, this is a rare sight. Mads Mathias' vocals crawl under your skin and so does the band. Listen to their refined interplay and beautiful solos. And the arrangements - wow - not without humour.
