Six Degrees of Separation are a grunge influenced rock band from Britain’s most easterly town, Lowestoft, Suffolk, UK. The four piece formed in the summer of 2005.
The band are all accomplished guitarists and songwriters and regularly swap vocals, guitar, bass and drum sticks. This gives diversity in style of music and a great live visual performance. Their music, heavily influenced by 90s Seattle grunge, follows the “verse, chorus, verse” theme with passion and rawness and has been described as “infectious yet simplistic”. Other major influences include Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Incubus, Pink Floyd and RHCP.
The first full band gig was October 2005, upstairs at the Seabreeze Club, Lowestoft. Gene Simmons’ Rock School 2 cameras appeared to film the evening, a clip from their set was aired on Channel 4 on 29/01/06.
Throughout 2006 they remained at Number One in UK Bands Grunge Chart with “Mad Maude”. “Stoneage” was played on Pulse Radio. “Sowing Lights” was featured on the Covermount CD in Issue 2 of “Unsigned Magazine” and their EP was reviewed in the new music section. They played at Eastern Haze Festival in 2006 alongside Hawkwind, Senser and Dreadzone. Their performance of “20th April” was featured in it’s entirety on the “Eastern Haze 2006” DVD. They had their acoustic track “Would” included on Volume 6 of Tilting Sky CD. The band organise a Music Festival every year to raise funds for local charities which feature up and coming local bands. They have raised over £3000 for charities over the past 3 years.
The band have headlined at Norwich Arts Centre, The Fisher Theatre, Bungay, The Marquee and Brickmakers in Norwich and Lark in the Park, London. They also played at East Fest, Gig in the Park alongside Echo and the Bunnymen and The Hamsters and again at Eastern Haze with The Levellers and The Blockheads.
The band have performed more than 150 gigs to date and have earned themselves a good following of fans. The Lowestoft Journal writes …“having built a strong Lowestoft following (by) winning audiences over with their energetic live shows…”.
Six Degrees biggest gig so far was on 13th November 2008 when they played to a capacity crowd at the Waterfront in Norwich supporting Fightstar! The band got a great response from the crowd and some very positive comments from the bands, management and promoters involved.
"...These guys manage to pull it off. Their sound has it's own character which enables them to stands above the clones. All five of the songs on this demo are strong, and have a modern heaviness in the production. This band are perhaps the missing link between Bush & Soil. If that sounds appealing, check them out. You won't be disappointed. 7/10" - VM Dan - Unsigned Magazine
"We are impressed by..the standard of musicianship on offer - technically advanced yet still simplistic and infectious. A great mix" - Rebecca Williams, Head of A & R, Inkhouse Label
"Overall impressions are that it's well cool." - Dave Arcan, Buzz Records
"I really thought it was incredible.." - Will Sherman, A & R Manager, Matchbox Recordings
