Far, far, far too many to mention, though it would be worth mentioning: Adem, Aphex Twin, At the Drive In, Biffy Clyro, Deathcab For Cutie, Radiohead, DJ Shadow, Four Tet, Regina Spektor, The Beach Boys, Cake, Green Day, Headswim, Mew, Rival Schools.

Sixpeopleaway is the musical project of Alistair Merrick (vocals/guitar) and close friend and long time musical collaborator Robert Hitchen (bass/backing vocals).
Together they produce angular acoustic guitar and vocal-led songs with laptop-generated beats and sounds.
Initially persuaded into playing live and posting songs on the internet by insistent friends and fans, sixpeopleaway’s unique sound and impressive live shows have been attracting a growing number of keen listeners both at gigs and via the MySpace page. This interest brought sixpeopleaway to the attention of a number of influential names in Scottish music, earning them press attention, radio play and, through New Found Sound, a development deal comprising of recording time, advertising and promotion.
King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut awarded them the Your Sound Artist of the Month
Award in November 2006, bringing them to the attention of XFM Scotland’s
Jim Gellatly, host of the station’s new music show, X-posure. Having featured
in the show’s MySpace Cadet competition, winning their heat with 51%
of the vote, they have continued to receive strong support and airplay from
XFM, featuring as one of Jim Gellatly’s top tips for 2007 and being invited to perform a live session on his X-Posure Show.
Also in 2007, sixpeopleaway were featured on BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio One Scotland and the BBC Scotland Introducing podcast by DJ Vic Galloway, on national BBC Radio One by Huw Stephens, reached the final 48 bands of T-Break 2007, played their first Festivals appearing both in the Solus Tent at this years Wickerman Festival and on the Your Sound Bandstand at Connect and were XFM Scotlands X-Posure Showcase band for the week beginning 23rd of July.
Alistair and Robert are currently working on new material, having recently released their second EP: “Intermittent Fault” (On the 29th February 2008). The debut CD ‘sixpeopleaway’, was released on the 30th of July having already been awarded Single Of The Fortnight in The List, Single Of The Week by Jim Gellatly on his X-Posure show and a place on the XFM Scotland playlist. It is currently available in stores, online, as a download via iTunes and other digital services, as well as at gigs and through their online music store (accessible via their MySpace page).
"sixpeopleaway is an incredible talent, on the verge of huge acclaim...Pure genius...everything I've ever said about the band is totally justified… and more. With just acoustic guitar, bass, vocals and a laptop, they make the most beautiful acoustic electronica..." ("TOP TEN FOR 2007", SINGLE OF THE WEEK, X-POSURE SHOWCASE) JIM GELLATLY, XFM
"sixpeopleaway sound awesome, brilliant stuff, I’m not just saying this but if there are A+R people listening right now you could do a lot worse than to sign these guys up, listen to this its fantastic!..." (UNSIGNED HEROES, INTRODUCING LIVE SESSION) VIC GALLOWAY, BBC RADIO ONE
“The outfit make beautiful, beat-fuelled acoustic tracks which stick out like a sore thumb from the current crop of supermarket indie-touting wannabes and are all the better for it… 'Providence' builds from stunningly beautiful vocals and clipped beats to a sumptuous string-tinged masterpiece… Genuinely heartfelt and utterly inventive - you can't ask for much more than that... " (5/5, SINGLE OF THE FORTNIGHT) THE LIST
"Sixpeopleaway’s fractured on-the-edge songwriting treads that line between alternative and commercial with ease. With a stirring, stunning voice Alistair Merrick is halfway there but it’s his knack for a tune and
his genuinely original electronic arrangements (aided and abetted by
Robert Hitchen) that set him aside from the rest of the singer-songwriter
crew..." STUART MCHUGH - EDITOR - iS THIS MUSIC?
"We were blown away. Forget any singer-songwriter preconceived ideas. Alistair has produced very much his own sound...Excellent songs and fresh delivery...confidence and obvious future potential" MUSIC NEWS SCOTLAND
"At once phenomenally powerful and utterly fragile, sixpeopleaway's distinctive guitar/bass/beats set-up sees an exciting creative force emerging from Glasgow. Sky-scraping melodies delivered by a passionate, almost unworldly voice unafraid of singing from the heart, this is highly crafted songwriting at its finest; provocative, inspiring and nothing less than absolutely beautiful." SCOTCAMPUS
"Working in a brutal genre, nice to see a fresh delivery...would love to see (sixpeopleaway) again..." ALEC DOWNIE - NEMIS
"...a singer/songwriter with bite..." THE SKINNY
"...spiky, angular, delicate and sometimes breathtaking... sharper, tougher and better observed than the Blunts and Morrisons of this world..." FUSE ONLINE MAGAZINE

Hello! We're launching our brand new single this Friday. There's going to be cake and dancing and lots of other fun things - come along if you can :) Kid C xxx
So, came to a realisation the other day; i think i like your version of "only living boy in New York" better than S&G :O sweeter guitar, voice is more complimenting; it's just better.
My god, why haven't I spotted your myspace profile earlier? I remember searching for it! Great music, I still love it. I remember first hearing next time round on the Bannermans Under the bridge 3. I'm going to scout out Intermittent Fault, now that it's out.
P.S. You guys ever decide to play in europe, or The Netherlands in any case, a tip is to book either Paradiso, or De Melkweg in Amsterdam. I'm quite good at rustling up a crowd, and know quite some people who like your music. Drop me a line, and thanks for adding me! -Shayral.
This is the first time I've been on and checked my page in months! Yeah, doing fine! Playing at The Metro in Falkirk tonight (May 29th) with my band Sy-KO. METAL!!! Was talking to Rabobobobob's mum last week! She's very proud of him. Keep up the jams man! I hope to catch up soon.
Sixpeopleaway have been played on the It's A Frog's Life Acoustic Podcast Show 54 - A Rae of sunshine . This show features three collaborations between Jimmy Rae, Phil Chisnall and Joe Topping. There are also new songs from Buddahead, Plunkett, Sixpeopleaway and Dahm the Bard, plus a surprise bonus track ahead of Show 56. ..

Alright troops, yous seem to be getting a good bit of press these days, we are doing a rare live gig at the 13th Note this Friday if yous fancy it should be good.
Thanks for the message. Can't remember how I found you, was 'band-hopping' as usual! Possibly from Endor's page I think, though we have quite a few friends in common. Hope to catch you at a gig soon.
I just listened to the sixpeopleway live session on bbc radio scotland and i was so impressed with it, i was so impressed that it was live, the sound levels were fantastic and the actual performance itself was gorgeous. you rock the live domain and counts for so much, the in show banter was cool and you dudes came across excellently. i hope you are well sir dude, little fire :)
dear sir i'll check out the live radio session later on tonight when i get back in from a wee bit of gallavanting im playing in the burns festival in ayr in a wee pub and then going to see some bands play that got thru in the battle of the bands thing i was hoping to progress in, the winning prize being to support status quo at ayr racecourse, bet you wish you were supporting the quo ali? no? haha :) my dads a big fan anyway or at least he was 20 odd years ago or something or was that 200? i hope you are well ali sir and your adventures are good! jamie :P
Sounding good Ali and Bob - I think you should run a wee comp to get some stage names for yourselves - the more unusual and less likely to suit the better I say - ok maybe not, but the session is sounding dandy. Great voice and love the beats.
