Hey! SJLA!'s Blurbs |
About me:
Many SJLA members are graduate students in the Master of Fine Arts program at Fresno State. Click here for a full calendar of MFA events.
Upcoming Events
-The SJLA encourages the literary community to attend the Fresno State MFA Student Reading Series reading, "Poetry and Prose Swim Party." Talented writers Marilyn Byrne, Candace Duerksen, JC Trevino, Carol Vitali, and Liz Scheid will be making a splash Friday, May 2nd, at 7:30pm in the Alice Peters Auditorium (Peters Business Building 191).
Come dressed in your Hawaiian shirts and board shorts and you just may win a prize.
Past Events
-The MFA Student Reading Series presents "The Writers' Academy Awards," April 18th, 7:30pm in the Alice Peters Auditiorium.
-The SJLA encourages the literary community to attend Fresno State's MFA Student Reading Series reading on Thursday, March 27th at 8pm in the Alice Peters Auditorium (PB 191) in the Peters Business Building on campus. The theme is "Uncensored: Writing the Taboo," and four creative nonfiction students--Mark Roberts, Lisa Lieberman, Eric Parker, and Karen Sikola--will be reading their scandalous tales of sordid behavior, confessing dangerous secrets, and revealing terrible truths. Come taste the forbidden fruit.
-The SJLA brings nonfiction writer Eric Blehm, author of The Last Season, to campus Friday, April 4th at 8pm in the The Leon and Pete Peters Educational Center. To read up on Blehm, go here: http://www.ericblehm.com/. We recommend reading the reviews.
Are you ready to Rogue it up? The 2008 Rogue Festival is upon us with its dazzling myriad of shows. Be sure to attend SJLA's "Poetry and Prose from Fresno State," a Rogue performance featuring 12 Fresno State MFA students. Back for a third year, this trained crew of poets and storytellers from Fresno State, composed of soft-spoken sasquatches, unrepentant home-wreckers, clumsy ninjas, and flighty visionaries, will send you into a tailspin. You'll plummet through recollection, drop into wormholes in the imagination, and arrive three hours late in the landscape of the twisted and perverse.
$4 performances will take place at the Spectrum Gallery, 608 E. Olive Ave. in Fresno's Tower District.
Friday, February 29th at 8:45pm
Saturday, March 1st at 5pm
