Upcoming Events


The SJLA encourages the literary community to attend Fresno State's MFA in Creative Writing Thesis Reading on Friday, February 27th (2009) from 7pm-9pm in the Alice Peters Auditorium (PB 191) in the Peters Business Building on campus. Diane Miniel will read nonfiction and James Tyner and Maggie Webley will read poetry. The reading is free and open to the public!

Are you ready to Rogue it up?

The 2009 Rogue Festival is upon us with its dazzling myriad of shows. Be sure to attend SJLA's "Poetry and Prose from Fresno State," a Rogue performance spanning three days and lasting 45 minutes each time and featuring a total of 12 Fresno State MFA in Creative Writing students.

Friends, come sit by the fire. We Fresno State writers have stories to spin in the smoke of our pipes, poems to stoke the flames of insight, and essays that will make your mustaches flicker and twitch in the fire's strange light.

$4 performances will take place at the Spectrum Gallery, 608 E. Olive Ave. in Fresno's Tower District.

Saturday, February 28th at 7:30pm
Wednesday, March 4th at 8:45pm
Saturday, March 7th at 5:00pm

Thursday, February 26th: Catch a free and fun 10 minutes of poetry and prose at Ashtree Studios in the Tower District. Time TBA.

If you fancy poetry, you'll also want to hit Liesl Garner's show, "Strengthen Me with Raisins." The show is $4 and will be happening at Veni Vidi Vici, 1116 N. Fulton St.

In The Grove presents "Pakatelas," an homage to the late poet Andres Montoya.

The lovely Ms. Brand failed to specify which corner of the SJLA pic that beautiful little brown girl was in so I'm am going to sneak in and steal the compliment and declare that she meant ME in the bottom LEFT hand corner. Although she's rockin' it hard in the bottom right!
