Serron King listened to Al Green and Aretha Franklin growing up, but then she included Fleetwood Mac and Carol King. Growing up in St. Louis, the home of blues and soul, you'd find this little girl playing James Taylor then spinning off into Rakim or vibing to Santana's guitar. Serron is a diverse combination of music, so she has been called the first child of hip hop, rock and soul!

Some people have compared her to Tina Turner, who by the way, grew up in St. Louis as well!!! Her distinctively rich voice has also been likened to Nina Simone and Meshel N'degeocello, a comparison she enjoys since she is a huge fan of both artists. The feel is unmistakably real, raw soul!
Serron King grew up in North St. Louis, surrounded by family and music. When she wasn’t singing in church with her five brothers and sisters, or listening to the blues at her grandparents’ house, she was sitting in her father’s car outside the family home, listening to tapes of Aretha Franklin and Al Green. “But it wasn’t just black music I was into,” says this rare beauty, whose supermodel elegance belies her modest beginnings. “I loved James Taylor, Carly Simon, Carole King.” By the time Serron was twelve years old, she had begun blending these diverse musical influences into one spirited sound. In 2002, she left St. Louis for New York, where she was able to hone her St. Louis style into something more cosmopolitan—without losing her sweet, true, tough sense of self. “I don’t like to be pigeonholed,” she says with a laugh, “though people keep trying…”
Serron King is ready to break out—with fresh, spirited soul, and a fiercely independent new voice.
