The Company Sk8 Ramps UK has been established for seven years and was born in a location were changing weather conditions, topography and location places its own unique challenges on any project or business.
Founder and head of company direction and building development Andrew Hornby states,
“The North of Scotland is a very special place and Inverness is one of the fastest growing city communities in Europe. Back in 2000 after ten years of making do with what very little street was available I decided to campaign for a much needed small community ramp for what I believed was a growing “all wheel” community.
My voluntary skills and project management in liaison with authorities, the Highland Council and Youth Inclusive gave rise to the creation of a 4ft high by 17ft wide wooden Half Pipe turning my vision from a dream into a reality.
This project enabled me to complete statistics and monitor such a facility and it soon became apparent that there was a need for improved facilities.
The City council approached me for advice and an offer to tender for an expansion to the existing ramp and Sk8 Ramps UK was born.
Local community awareness and media coverage resulted in private constitutions requesting consultation, design and costs, every quote submitted was accepted giving company confidence and encouragement to expand.”
