Stomp your boots to the two tone beat, it's SKAWASH! South London’s very own ska disco, offering up the finest resident and guest DJs spinning the best SKA, Rocksteady and Reggae.
For this very special event SKAWASH will be showcasing some of the best live acts on the SKA Scene including Bad Manners, one of the original and most famous of the original Two-Tone pioneers. This is their only London date on their present tour, playing to a very intimate audience. You do not want to miss this!
Feat:
BAD MANNERS (http://www.myspace.com/badmannersofficial ) One of the Original Two Tone Bands that rose to fame in the early eighties, Bad Manners is fronted by the larger than life Buster Bloodvessel a man that once got banned from Italian TV for mooning the crowd at one of their concerts after finding out the Pope was watching.
Their hits include "My Girl Lollipop", "Lip Up Fatty"," Ne Ne Na Na Na Na Nu Nu", "Special Brew" , " Lorraine ", " Just A Feeling", "Walking In The Sunshine" and the "Can Can". They were even voted biggest band of the Eighties!
The band broke up in the mid eighties but reformed a few years later and continue to play live till this day. The 16th May is their only London date on their present tour. Prepare to skank the night away at the New Cross Inn on the 16th May....
----------------------------------------
Danny Fontaine And The Horns Of Fury (http://www.myspace.com/dannyfontaineandthehornsoffury ) Seven brave men are giving a new meaning to Orchestral Death Ska Barbershop. Meet Danny Fontaine and the Horns of Fury, bearded eccentrics from the South London area. You have to see the live show to really understand them but they have been described as a cross between Queen, The Clash, The Beach Boys and Muse.
----------------------------------------
Swagga (http://www.myspace.com/swaggaska) A cross genre mix of Ska, Hip Hop & Rap, fusing old and new bringing Ska to a different level. Lyrical genius Ray writes witty, urban fairytales which document modern life in Britain, covering the ASBO generation and the Americanisation of the British culture.
With DJs Conal Kennedy (www.myspace.com/djconal ) International DJ playing an original vynl blend of early Ska, Rocksteady and Skinhead reggae. He’s played at clubs and scooter rallies all over the UK, as well as many club nites in London and in Europe. He’s supported many Jamician acts, such as Jimmy Cliff and many of the top names in Ska today.

The SKA Burlesque was a monthly club night, which started life at the Montague Arms in New Cross. After a few problem with Lewisham Council we were forced to leave the Monty. We sat up home, just down the road at the Amersham Arms as well as having a bi-Monthly at the Macbeth in Shoreditch from the 16th Nov 2007.
In August after a great three year journey, which saw us get amazing reviews and press, the SKA Burlesque, twirled its tassles and skanked for the last time. As usual for the event, things didn't run smoothly. Promoter Steve Kleenex even ended up being arrested for defending a ladys honour! Classic! |
We also want to thank everyone that came along to our opening night at the Amersham Arms on the 18th October. And what a night it was. People started coming in as soon as the doors opened and we ended up selling out by midnight. Watch this space for upcoming events! |
We were also lucky enough to be featured in the February 14th issue of Time-Out, not only did they print an article about the SKA Burlesque but we were even mentioned on the front cover, before London fashion week, no less! |
