Skandalon is unapologetically electronic music. While the parameters of this genre are vast, Skandalon intends to carve its own niche within the style. In addition to the requisite laptop tracks used for live performance, Skandalon mixes a variety of live percussion, keyboards, acoustic drums, toys, sound-sculpting technology, and other noise-making objects based upon whatever may be appropriate for a performance. Eclectic elements are helpful; anything is really fair game, from the smallest plastic kid's toys to amplified leaf blowers. But this is not avant-garde per se, nor is it noise for the sake of noise; elements of traditional song structure keep Skandalon in a more accessible vein. Of particular importance is the live drummer, who provides a needed in-your-face element that most electronic acts neglect altogether.
The spirit of Skandalon's music is one of strength, energy, and creativity. Yet within the song structures there is also a current of pain, defiance, drama, and desperation. Skandalon has a theme that varies between Seismic Industrial Grooves, Electro-Machinistic Mayhem, Churning Ambient Haze - one critic recently dubbed Skandalon the "Pink Floyd of Electronic." At its very best, Skandalon is the 21st century iteration of everything the early industrial bands attempted to accomplish back in the 80s and 90s namely, a marriage of the pyscho robot and the ethereal goth - all produced by machines - and packaged into CDs and, more importantly, into impactful live performances.
Detractors of todays electronic music say it lacks musicianship, ingenuity, and is too repetitive. Furthermore, live performances are nothing more than pre-recorded, replicated sequences can that dull ones senses to the bone. While some electronic music has done its part to earn such detractions, there are a handful of artists creating a unique sound that satisfies their primary audience. Skandalon intends to not only satisfy, but to forge new territories of creation and performance, reaching into the tired souls of its audience, awakening them with something vibrant and unexpected. Details to unfold for the rest of our lives.
