Monopoly Child Star Searchers (Spencer Clark from The Skaters) Monopoly child Star Searchers is an exciting house band from the island, Pacific City. The music involves the imagination as it experiences the landscape and sound of island jungles while connecting with the stars and personal inner self. "The arc of these new jams seems to be focussed more on the flashing, hallucinatory component of combined percussive levitations and infinite keyboard flow, with Spencer's liquid synth logic generating huge ectoplasmic though-forms that are then ritually processed using infinite mathematical re-statements of time in order to more closely mirror the onset of classic hypnagogic states. Terry Riley's Persian Surgery Dervishes still feels like the closest reference point but it sounds more like a hallucinatory remembering of the endlessly reproductive and organic aspects of Riley's universal vision. Closer to the live Vodka Soap 'jungle' rituals than anything else he has recorded to date, this is one of his most psychedelic and fully immersed sides and is another necessary instalment on one of the most accelerated evolutions in modern punk primitive avant-thought. DOLPHINS INTO THE FUTURE // "Very nice. " Volcanic Tongue // the sounds are information received through thelepathic / empathic communication with dolphins. all sounds and compositions are made under the proces of automatic writing. this is information about the past and future of earth. // I gotta say… Dolphins into the Future totally kick my ass. This project is the main focus of Belgium-based musician/tape manipulator, Lieven Martens (If you check the credits… I have to think that Alex Murphy is just another way to confuse identity?). The dude takes this game to a new level. He steps it up, mixing tape loops and sounds to create a bizarre glowing atmosphere, one that seems to provide a pathway for it’s listeners to communicate with our animal ancestors. It’s good weed for those of us that would like to abscond from the earth-bound existence. Lieven runs a label, or maybe a set of labels (?), that seem to come together under the name Taped Sounds (see bread and animals / cauliflower / taped sounds and I’ve seen Dreamtime Taped Sounds too). There is tons of good stuff on this label, with lots more to come. In addition to releasing all of the interesting current stuff out there, he also re-released a classic LP from JD Emmanuel: Wizards. I heard that this sold out in 10 days. There have been a few reviews out in cyberspace-land that seem to mention this guy’s got some sort of super power with regards to altering tape loops in the live show setting. After seeing this video, I have to say I can’t disagree. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK4nAlCnBWA. Uhhhh… did i say see? This tape is weirdo gamelan music from the depths of the ocean. It’s a mix of “tapes, special effects, synthesizer, sampling keyboard, organ, percussion, kalimba” (that is taken from a strip of folded paper insert stuffed inside the case). There’s one long track on it that will completely confuse you. It’s a repetitive track that has this odd vocal sound that comes in and out; it could be a dolphin, it could be someone moaning in their sleep. After this track you enter into this clinking/clanking metal sound, as if pieces of cymbals are being tossed around on the kitchen floor by toddlers. Buried underneath, but rising, a near unintelligible drum circle seems to ensue. Cut in some more dolphin sounds, this time distant and gurgling beneath the surface. And then it goes to this dreamy synth track, a magical journey to an uncharted island, ending in a rain forest next to a stream. P.A.R.A. was channeled due to a deep regression trance into the world before Atlantis. She rode on the back of an emerald eyed jaguar to a city situated in a bubble bellow Antartica. There she saw her first rendition of life on this planet. Her father was king of the merpeople and her mother queen of the fairy realm. They bore Para to fight the ever pressing disassotiation with the mystical worlds. She would help to start Atlantis and leave clues to the inhabitants of earth of the alterior dimensions. Now she is reincarnated to help the transition in the evolution of humans ablitity to manifest destiny. ___________________________________________________________________________ “...P.A.R.A.s work is sourced more in established occult practice, with polymorphic goddess identities channeled via intense vocal excitations and primitive mantras. The murky, lo-fi feel of the recordings (album Dune Rider) seems to function as a scrying mirror that facilitates the unlocking of repressed personas with the result that at points it sounds like Labanna is duetting with multiple incarnations of herself, as loop after loop of fourth world chant, tape junk and drums work to disorientate you completely. There are aspects of Meredith Monk, Cameron, Fursaxa, the hysterical cinema of Kenneth Anger and Ira Cohen… all filtered through the uniquely brain-erasing, Angus MacLise-to-the-nth-degree New Age label aesthetic.... The album Manisfestival has a more zone ESP-Disk feel, with overdubbed vocal chants, bell tones, keyboard drones and a heavy Bobby Beausoleil/Joyous Lake-style atmosphere... This (album Pentacles of Life) is the most overtly ritualistic of her new releases, starting with an evocation of elemental female power via the chanting of Goddess names before dissolving into bell tones, haunting vocal cries and wiped-out tape drone... Silk Sky is a gorgeous release, with smears of heavenly vocals and distant tonal percussion combining in the kind of ritual reverie most associated with hallucinatory Polynesian exotica and faraway Javanese gamelan...Totally fantastic...Uniquely transporting, and highly recommended.” David Keanan Volcanic Tongue .. .. .. .. ......Venus of Wilendorf.. from ..LaBanna Bly.. on ..Vimeo... JAMES FERRARO AS NUKE SURVIVOR --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From the front cover art alone it’s pretty apparent that this release is an extension of his amazing earlier Edward Flex side, with alien-faced musclemen teleported to an imagined Acropolis via steroids and Budweiser. The track titles take the whole sick city/dystopian cheeseburger USA vibe to a whole other level – “Computer Chipped Police”, “Surveillance Society”, “Public Execution Of A No Mark”, “Seventh Book Horsemen” – while the sonics combine bass guitar, thunder cracks, Nazi-fied marching songs, triumphant horns, video game asteroid explosions, tape-warped muscleman grunts and meathead vocal chants. The effect is as horrifying and confusing as the post-microwave culture that James both worships and abhors and this is some of the most startling black nightmare psychedelia of his career. Utterly singular. Highly recommended.-David keenan of Volcanic Tongue on Postremo Mundus Techno-Symposium --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It feels like a major work from James, the first fully-conceived album to go beyond his initial brain-fried 1980s nightmare culture documentation, reconciling both dystopian and utopian mindsets in a vision of Pan as Multitopia. Body modification, the blurring of sexual persona (via cracked images of James on the back with a modified pair of breasts chilling next to an arcade game) and cyborg intelligences are all recurrent tropes in James’s work but here he explodes them all, with some of the most aggressively nuanced keyboard and drum work of his entire career, kicking off with a full kit sound that sits somewhere between Industrial steel drums and chaos pads then building to an evocative peak that then dissolves into wave after wave of fluxing keyboard drone and oddly looped vocal fragments. The gravity of the music is truly omnivorous, devouring drone, punk, new wave, Industrial and minimal synth modes and spitting them back out as intensely detailed black and white visions of the future now. James somehow manages to interweave vacuous TV announcements and cheap anchor man quips alongside the lucid, microtone rich keyboard work, situating the whole deal in a virtual, godless netherworld with each track a further descent into hell. It is both beautiful and horrifying. A major work from James – no one is doing anything remotely like him. Due for a vinyl reissue soon, but this is the first edition that you will soon be eating rocks to afford. Highly recommended.-David keenan of Volcanic Tongue on Multitopia .. .. .. .. ..
