About me:
My name is Sam and this is my fan page dedicated to the Swiss band Yello, consisting of Dieter Meier and Boris Blank, who have been making extraordinary and very influential music for nearly 30 years.
They released their first single 'I.T. Splash' in 1979 and their debut lp 'Solid Pleasure' followed in 1980. Originally there were 3 members in the band, the other being Carlos Peron - since the early 80's the line-up has consisted of Dieter and Boris only.
Their first great breakthrough came in 1983. 'You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess', released on Stiff Records, was critically acclaimed as a classic of electronic music. Thus began a run of amazing lps and singles throughout the 80's. The track 'Oh Yeah', from the 1985 album 'Stella', became one of their most well known songs.
In 1986 they released the classic double album, '80-85 The New Mix In One Go', followed in 1987 by another acclaimed album 'One Second'.
Then in 1988 they suddenly scored their biggest hit single with 'The Race', taken from the album 'Flag'. Their profile was never higher than at this point in their career.
In the 1990's they continued to release great lp's, beginning with 'Baby' in 1991. Like the two previous albums this also featured vocals from Billy Mackenzie, singer with the pioneering Scottish band The Associates and solo artist in his own right. His amazing voice only added to the magic of their music. 'Pocket Universe', released in 1997, is their most forward looking album of this period. Mention must also go to 'Motion Picture' from 1999, which contained the wonderful single 'Squeeze Please'.
In 2003 their most recent album 'The Eye' was released. The opening track 'Planet Dada' was an instant Yello classic, proving that their ability to stun the listener with imagination and incredible production had not deserted them. Now in 2008 we, the fans, await their forthcoming new studio album with great anticipation. Why? Because they are total originals who are always worth waiting for. Their aren't many left these days after all... Finally, here are some links to two essential Yello-related sites. The official Yello site is here:

As a true Yello fan, I am taking a big leap and saying that their new album will be released worldwide in September. Why? Because September is the 9th month of the year, and my day of birth is the 9th, lately the number three has been coming up everywhere, and 3 3's are nine. Sounds logical to me lol. But seriously I really do think it will be then in September. We can't wait for this.
I had a recollection this morning out of no-where. I read in Tower Records magazine about 10-12 years ago that reggae legend Lee Scratch Perry went to Bern & recorded an album at Yello studios produced by them. I need to find that album. I found no mention of such on Dieter's site, but need to look again. I'd like to hear this.
Thanks for being a part of this experience. It's been hard but I'm adjusting, it was a good 15 1/2 years together and it was the best years of my life. It will take some time. I am doing my radio show as we speak, a 4AD show with This Mortal Coil, Cocteau Twins, DCD, Throwing Muses, Clan of XYMOX, etc, no Yello of course, unfortunately. Anyway, hope that you're well and that you can listen to one of my shows some day. Take care and keep in touch.
Oh Sam, I've been meaning to tell you this. My best friend (dog) Morphine passed away on 6/9/08 and guess what the last cd we listened to, together? ONE SECOND, can you believe that? Yello was her fave group too and this will be memorable to the both of us. She was in my life for 15 1/2 years and I truly miss her. I played MOON ON ICE and LA HABANERA for her on THE SOUND LAIR. Take care my friend and make everyday of your life count.
We are here In this holy cave today To celebrate The reincarnation Of Domingo de Santa Clara The man who convinced us That there is no Lord For His name is Buddha, Allah, Shiva, Yahweh Outside our bodies
We are God 'Cause only we can create the idea Of His existence in our holy brains
Je deteste l'idee de dieu et de son fils [I hate the idea of God and His son] C'est une des idees les plus diaboliques [It's one of the most diabolical ideas] Dans l'histoire entiere de l'homme [In the whole history of man]
Let us pray to ourselves and our spirits!
Domingo you show me just nothing Like no one before
Domingo of Santa Clara You made us believe That you are no phantom One without
The slightest spot of a thousand nations Your spiritual brother Domingo
We all know Domingo of Santa Clara Will be born today, tomorrow, and the day after Billions of times 'Til the end of the Universe Here with a smile on his face As the rest of our species watches The catastrophe
Domingo you show me just nothing Like no one before
What's the "best" Yello album? That's tough. I think 'One Second' is personally, even though 'Baby' is probably my favourite, followed by 'Stella' and 'The Eye.' I have to say I wasn't that crazy about 'Zebra' overall, was a little disappointed with it when it came out.
Have you seen Dieter's work "As Time Goes By" - various biographies impersonated by him in 2005 on his site? FANTASTIC!!!
