Too Pure Singles Club would like to introduce and give a very warm welcome to Skeletons And The Empty Pockets, the next act to lend their musical muscle to the Too Pure stable. The band join the likes of Pulled Apart By Horses, Friendship and Three Trapped Tigers who have all contributed 500 limited edition, hand-numbered 7” singles to this year’s Club.
Hailing from Sheffield, the quintet bonded many years ago over a shared love of Minnie Riperton, Micheal Jackson, Slayer and martial arts (they met at karate lesson in their local Nether Edge). By their own admission they are “a couple o’reyt nice kids with nowt better to do.” After their former incarnation (Fierce Panda-signed ThisGIRL) came to its natural demise, the then four-piece recruited keyboardist Matt Jones and Skeletons And The Empty Pockets was born. Their first show was a small invite-only affair at Sheffield’s legendary Club 60 and in a surprisingly short space of time they have developed into one of the hottest live bands in Britain’s fifth city.
‘Oh Brother!’ b/w ‘In The Woods’ is Skeletons And The Empty Pockets’ debut release. Conventional in their approach to songwriting and no-nonsense in execution, the band has delivered two songs packed with foot-stomping beats and sing-a-long choruses. There’s an underlying pop sensibility to these three-minute tracks and yet they are clearly inspired by the bluesy rock ‘n’ rollbands of yesteryear. As debuts go, this is pretty impressive.
This is the sound of a band having fun and Too Pure fully endorse such merriment.
Skeletons And The Empty Pockets will celebrate the release of ‘Oh Brother’ with a headline show at The Harley in Sheffield on Friday 31st July. The first 20 people through the door will receive a copy of the ‘Oh Brother’.
‘Oh Brother!’ b/w ‘In The Woods’ will be available on 7” vinyl and digital download on July 27th2009
"....Never all all my born years have i seen such an energetic band that kept their cool and style, while at the same time going completely off the wall."
"....forcing 10,000 volts into this Sheffield five-piece would barely muster the power for the keyboard, never mind the rest of the group!"
"Skeletons wield a staggering blues rock foot stomping sound whilst remaining within the realms of their Sheffield background"
"I truly believe if you're reading this article hoping to find a new favourite band, you don't have to read much further. The band are a rock n roll force to be reckoned with, the live domain is theirs!"
