ABOUT ME

I am a professional classical guitarist based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Recent performance highlights include two performances with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in October of 2006 as a featured soloist in the WSO's prestigious Masterworks series performing Osvaldo Golijov's "Oceana" and three performances with the WSO and the Manitoba Opera Association performing Verdi's "Otello" in April 2007, as well as a full length recital for the Winnipeg Classical Guitar Society in June of 2007.

***UPCOMING PERFORMANCES include two concerts with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra on APRIL 23rd and 24th 2008 at the MTS Center, and a full length recital for the Winnipeg Classical Guitar Society (DUET CD RELEASE PARTY) on Saturday JUNE 28th, 2008 at the Manitoba Museum Planetarium Auditorium at 8 pm.

I completed my studies in Classical Guitar Performance at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Music under professor Ryszard Tyborowski and have enjoyed a successful career as classical guitarist ever since.

I have performed in masterclasses with some of the best classical guitarists in the world including Leo Brouwer(Cuba), David Russell (Scotland), Roland Dyens (Paris), Fabio Zanon (Brazil), Denis Azabagic (Bosnia), Pia Gazarek-Offermann (Germany), Ricardo Cobo (Columbia), Alexander Dunn (Victoria), Alvin Tung (Toronto) and Norbert Kraft (Canada).

At the prestigious Domaine Forget Music and Dance Academy in Quebec, I studied under renown classical guitar pedagogues Bruce Holzman (USA)and Jean Valliers (Quebec) and Patrick Roux (Ottawa).

As a student, I was awarded the Best Overall Performance Award at the 1999 Winnipeg Music Competition Festival by adjudicator Alexander Dunn (Victoria) and was awarded the Winnipeg Classical Guitar Society Scholarship Prize by Ian Hodges (Winnipeg). In 2000, I was again awarded the Best Overall Performance Award at the Winnipeg Music Competition Festival this time by adjudicator Fabio Zanon (Brazil) and again won the Winnipeg Classical Guitar Society Scholarship Prize and was a finalist in the prestigious Lawrence Genser Performance Competition.

I currently teach classical guitar for the University of Manitoba Faculty of Music Preparatory Division and the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts and hold the position of Vice President of the Winnipeg Classical Guitar Society.

In recognition of my career in classical guitar performance I have received awards from both the Canada Council for the Arts and the Manitoba Arts Council.

Although much more well known as the leader and percussionist of the popular Winnipeg Latin-Jazz Ensemble "Papa Mambo" Rodrigo Hernan Muñoz Carrasco is an acomplished guitarist who studied under Harold Micay in the early eighties. Rodrigo released in 2004(under his own label) a classical guitar CD entitled "A Mis Padres", and he is currently working on his second CD which will feature his own arrangements of well known and loved afro-latin classics. Rodrigo is also a teacher who cares deeply about his students and their studies.
