Interests

  • General

Science, skepticism, magical thinking. Also monkeys, music (the good kind), cheap wine, roller skates, and food items you think are vegetables but aren't.
  • Music

Dead Kennedys, Dead Milkmen, New York Dolls, Modest Mouse, Violent Femmes, Decemberists, and They Might Be Giants. And since I'm suddenly updating this after multiple years: TV on the Radio, Beach House, Mountain Goats, Raconteurs, Gogol Bordello, Devotchka, and a lot of other stuff. Also: Rachmaninov.
  • Movies

Porn, mostly, but also odd bits of genius, like Rushmore, The Life Aquatic, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Bottle Rocket; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Little Miss Sunshine while on the topic of sunniness.
  • Television

I watch all my television shows on DVD. Futurama, The Adventures of Pete & Pete, The A-Team (yes really), Penn & Teller's Bullshit, and Newsradio, for starters. Okay, now that Hulu exists: House, Daily Show, Colbert.
  • Books

I read a lot. Jon Ronson, James Randi, Mary Roach, Simon Singh, Richard Wiseman, Carl Sagan, Michael Shermer, Richard Dawkins, Mark Twain, Ambrose Bierce, Umberto Eco, and many others. I just finished Susan Jacoby's Age of American Unreason. It was okay.
  • Heroes

See the above. No, not the list of great critical thinkers, above that: the A-Team. Now those are heroes.

About me:

I'm the chick behind Skepchick.org. I produce nudie calendars, educate the public about science and skepticism, and fund and support people who do the same. I have a blog and a podcast.

I like to kick wildlife.

Here's what I'm doing now:

Also, I'd just like to say that I AM NOT A NUDIST. That was the oddest thing I've ever been forced to write on my profile, but there it is. Apparently some fans are nudists and have added me as a friend, leading other nudists to assume we are "friends" not because they are skeptics but because I am a nudist. I don't really mind, but it's getting a bit silly to see dozens of messages from people asking to talk to me about being naked or asking me to join groups for nudists. So please people: I am not a nudist. Thank you. Myspace is so odd.

Who I'd like to meet:

People who use their brains for the purposes of good. Or evil, depending on your POV. I'll be more likely to add you if your profile shows you to be the rational sort, or if you list me as one of your heroes.
