Motivated, this young artist stays busy with non-stop promotion, distribution of his own music, developing artists, producing tracks, and engineering for various projects. Needless to say, Skewby has made a name for himself in Memphis and in the Southern Rap community. You can expect many of his projects to surface in the very near future.
Recently, Skewby landed two tracks on Short Dawg’s Gangsta Grillz mix tape, hosted by Don Cannon. One of the tracks entitled, “Southside” also features Pimp C of UGK. Currently he’s putting the finishing touches on his first solo project to hit the streets in the very near future.
“It’s real talk. It’s just me being me and I hope my fans will appreciate what’s on my mind. I believe they will really feel what I’ve got to say. It’s taking me awhile to get it out…but I tend to be a perfectionist and I want it to be just right.”
Skewby recently established his own publishing company, Skewby Snax Publishing (ASCAP) and hopes to also have his own production company one day. “One step at a time! I’m young and have a lot to learn about the business. But I’m motivated like no other. Every chance I get I’m soaking up knowledge, ya know? Just recently, while I was in Atlanta, I had the greatest opportunity to go with Short when he recorded at DJ Toomp’s studio. It was a good look…just to kick back with Toomp. I’ve always respected his work. I actually got to visit a lot of studios where some major stuff was going on. I was really paying attention.”
As for the Memphis scene, Skewby is working with DJ 007 (K-97fm) on his “Certified Gangsta” series of mix tapes.
“Its all about grindin! Says Skewby. Just watch me. Music is where it is. I never know what the next day will bring, but I look forward to it all. The ups and the downs…it all leads to success. I’m truly blessed.”
