Just me, making noises in the studio. Sometimes friends come and bring me food...
Influences
Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, Yes, Hawkwind, AmonullunomA, Children's Television Themes of the 1970s, Amplifier, Steve Reich, Van der Graaf Generator, Stereolab, Steely Dan, Radiohead, Miles Davis, Ravi Shankar, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Spinal Tap, Monster Magnet, Black Sabbath, A Perfect Circle, Blue Oyster Cult, Philip Glass, David Lynch, Gorecki, Cliff Martinez, Leaves' Eyes, Gong, Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, Led Zeppelin, Crosby Stills and Nash, Beatles, Hendrix, Boards of Canada, Stars of the Lid, and a whole bunch more, but you get the drift...
Shameless plug: Listen to Groovin' On. It's groovy! Right. Now that's out of the way...
About me... hmmm... well, I've always been into music. As a youngster, I was deeply inspired by such far out things as the theme tunes to Sapphire & Steel, Blake's 7, and of course Doctor Who.
I've played bass guitar in bands ranging from Singer-songwriter to Psychedelic Space Jazz, with the occasional appearance on other-people's-music whenever I happened to be nearby. I've also been blessed with a deep joy of analogue synthesisers, and recently managed to acquire one! A big fat modular system. It's all wooden-cased and full of patching goodness. Nice :-)
So these days, I play with notes and sounds in my cosy home studio. The production is getting better with every new track as I learn the ins and outs of equipment and instruments, and gain new and more subtle sonic sensibilities.
Occasionally, folks ask me to write something for them, which I find immensely satisfying. I wrote this one for a T'ai Chi Chu'an demonstration a couple of years ago, and it still remains one of my best pieces (warning: that file is big, about 8MB, but is well worth mulling over with a nice cup of tea).
I also enjoy working with friends, but this doesn't happen as much as I'd like. Who knows... I may meet some future friends on here who'd be willing to contribute a note or two of musical joy...
High! Pablo here, reporting from Inner Space to wish you a great 2009! (we interrupt this comment with a brief announcement): The New Psychedelic Masterpiece "Take Two" Is Here! (16 tracks of sugar coated insanity) Hear 4 new songs! (P.S. the new album is best appreciated on a higher plane....;))
Hi Skidoo four new songs of well know smoothness and strong musicality. Love very much Deep Field Pizza (nice weired title): nice intro and then you push the pedal - very good! Lotta cheers and respect for the new tracks! Ralf / MST/Wired Ant
Hi Simon. Hows it going? Splendid music! I'm really enjoying listening to it. The last two tracks are epic! Great sounds and playing too. You've inspired me to fish my ebow out for a blast. Hope you are well. Mat
The Empire is such a beautiful place to play... It was Dark Funk. Bells ringing, Ian Paisley speeches, 10/8 timings, French Horn mic'd through a Chaos Pad, Two Apple Macs, Aramaic lyrics... y'know, the usual Belfast band playing a gig :-)
As we know there are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know there are known unknowns.
That is to say we know there are some things we do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don't know we don't know.

thanks a lot! i'm not home right now, but i'll check out your music later today... download.com stuff is much more new-agey, so you may not like it... i like music of many different genres, so i'm happy with being a bit new-agey sometimes... :)
Yes and no. The hands playing the real mellotron on the inside of my RPM album are indeed mine, but that photo wasn't from these sessions. (That 'tron belongs to Fort Apache studios in Cambridge, MA.)
I used M-Tron on the new album... Samples of a mellotron playing tape recordings of actual instruments: sort of like one of those pictures inside of a picture inside of a picture inside of (etc.)
Thanks for friendship!
I like both tracks a lot! "Groovin on" is a nice
and well done blend of some jazzy stuff and electronics!
Wanna hear more!
Cheers
