Skinny Lizzy are a Thin Lizzy tribute band who hail from Derry, Northern Ireland.
This 4-piece outfit consists of Kevin Nash on Vocals/Bass Guitar, Dee Bradley and Chris McConaghy on Lead Guitar, and young dynamo Mark O'Doherty on the Drums.
After toying with the idea of reforming the band for some time, the band have worked hard in 2008, getting ready to perform once more.
The band have already staged two very successful gigs, in The Cellar Bar Draperstown & The Diamond Rock Club, Ahoghill in November '08,
where the local patrons greated us very kindly, we had a great time.
"We all agreed there was no more fitting time to have a Thin Lizzy tribute night (and the band's first gig in Derry) than on the
23rd anniversary of the passing of one of rock's true greats, Phil Lynott. So we dedicated our 10th Jan '09 gig in Mason's Bar Derry to his eternal memory."
Skinny Lizzy originally formed 1999 when they first met each other, studying music in the Derry Tech. During the first incarnation of the band,
Skinny Lizzy only played locally in Derry, never really venturing too far out of their hometown's city limits. This time around the guys have a fresh attitude and are aiming to tour the country.
"We played quiet a bit in our earlier years and we helped to put on two very successful annual Phil Lynott tribute gigs in Derry. The second year we even had Philomena Lynott (Phil's Mother) come join us and listen to us play, we were much younger then of course but she had a great time and told us she really enjoyed our band. It was a great night, she loved the band and we all got our photos taken with her, as you can see in our "photos section". She was a really lovely lady and she regaled us of stories about Phil into the wee hours. We played together for about three years before we decided to call it a day and pursue; each, our own music. Now after seven years we felt it was time to return once more and re-visit playing the music we love."
And so after along absence from the local music scene, the boys are back in town. Equipped with an even tighter, more powerful sound and a new two hour set of old favourites and some rare Thin Lizzy gems. Not to mention the accumulated wealth of experience the guys have gained from playing with some of Derry's most exciting bands through the years, Our Krypton Son, Trip Fontaine, Portabello, Farago and Red Organ Serpent Sound, to name but a few. Skinny Lizzy are armed and ready to take to the stage again. Wherever Skinny Lizzy play be prepared for a night of full throttle Classic Rock as it should be... "Live and Dangerous".
