Phil Kieran is switching gears again. After three years of almost total dedication to his critically acclaimed Alloy Mental project ( www.myspace.com/alloymental), the Belfast DJ and producer is back to doing what he does best, making his own distinctive brand of dance music. Kieran has dug out the old techno gems , reflected on early influences like Joy Division and Aphex Twin, tipped his hat to newcomers like Marc Houle and Audion, and set to work on producing a catalogue of sure-fire dancefloor killers, for offer over the coming months. Last year Phil brought us ’Skyhook’ on Novamute and hooked up with Cocoon to release ‘I think I’m a monster’. Following both tracks widespread success the German label is also set to unleash ’Missp’ in March 08. Recent remix work includes ‘Hold my hand’ for UNKLE and the upcoming ‘Dancing Bears’ for Roel H, which is set to be massive.

PHOOKA, alias Francesco Maddalena, classe 1978, è la mamma ufficiale di Homework ed è membro della Beatperminute Records, nuova etichetta minimal techno indipendente italiana. Affascinato dal rumore e dalla ritmica spigolosa si avvicina all’elettronica con produzioni IDM e sperimentali in un primo momento e techno/minimal techno in seguito, pur non abbandonando le prime. Interessato dallo sviluppo in italia di una scena techno/electro di scuola romana se ne distacca con produzioni che risentono dell’influenza nord americana e tedesca (Akufen, Twerk, Sleeparchive, e tutto il filone M-nus) rivolgendo il suo sguardo verso una più completa ricerca sul suono (pads e bassi, soprattutto) e ad una ritmica più moderna e dall’impronta decisamente meno acid o anni 90. Sogna Berlino, ma vive a Roma, condividendo la casa/studio con l’inaffidabile quanto inutile e sempre più rumoroso pc, il Powerbook e macchinari audio/video.
