Skin Tight Outta Sight Rebel Burlesque is recognized as one of Canada’s pioneers in the Burlesque Revival. With six years of sold old shows under their sequined belts, this troupe bridges the gap between retro and revisionist with influences such as classical ballet, bump ‘n grind, Motown and just plain Out There!
The troupe got its start in 1998 in Toronto, when Founder, Tanya Cheex became Canada’s distributor for Skin Two Fetish Wear. Not content to market the clothing with traditional catwalk shows, Tanya got the idea to use the art of burlesque as a creative way to showcase the fashions. So Skin Tight Outta Sight was born! Tanya had always been inspired by the aesthetic of the Pin-up era and soon, the troupe developed to create retro bump ‘n grind acts, with very elaborate costumes. Over the years and with the addition of new troupe members, Skin Tight Outta Sight flourished to what it is today! Currently, the troupe has over eighty performance pieces in their repertoire, spanning from the burlesque of the turn of the century to pastie-twirling numbers of the 1950s, to very modern, punky or fetish-inspired dance routines.
Skin Tight Outta Sight has a strong history of community involvement. Using burlesque to challenge stereotypes around gender, body size, diversity and feminism, the troupe performs regularly at fundraisers for local arts organizations and social agencies. They are also very active in the creation of the local burlesque scene in Toronto. They are the founders of The Toronto Burlesque and Vaudeville Alliance which welcomes other ecydysiasts to “Take it off!” in their fair city!(www.groups.yahoo.com/group/toronto_burlesque_vaudeville_alliance)
