Bio
Skip Friel (pronounced freel) began playing guitar at an early age and by 17 years old had formed the band, 'Fresh Produce,' with brother Randy. In his twenties Skip regularly performed as a solo acoustic act or with his folk rock band, 'String Fever.' In his thirties he took a break from performing to focus on a career in engineering. Eventually entering into impromptu sessions with musician friends, the experiences inevitably led to public appearances which, in time, became more frequent. Since 2003 Friel and his band, 'The Resonators,' have been a mainstay of Hampton Roads live music. Skip's award winning 2007 album, Twilight Red Sky, features finely-crafted originals that are uplifting, inspiring, and go straight to the heart. In December 2008 Skip teamed with brother Randy Friel to release the album, 'Evergreen Christmas.' Skip's song 'Evergreens' was awarded 2008 Best International Folk Song by Toronto Exclusive Magazine. In Spring 2011 Skip began work on his second solo CD, which is due for release in Fall 2011. Performing solo or with his band, Skip is at home in large, festival venues and on intimate, acoustic-friendly stages. "His wonderful debut CD, 'Twilight Red Sky,' is full of gems, enabling the listener to truly feel the joy and pain that only a talented singer can convey. There's a raw emotion to both Friel's songwriting and performance. I was immediately impressed with the depth to which his music was able to resonate with me. 'Twilight Red Sky' is one of my top picks for 2007." Jeff Maisey, The Virginian-Pilot, January 19th, 2007. "Virginia Beach singer/songwriter Skip Friel uses his ten-track CD, "Twilight Red Sky," to take listeners down the back roads of Americana. .... Friel's guitar work is exceptional. His voice recalls the tone and phrasing of Randy Newman, Leonard Cohen and, at times, Van Morrison. The mix of guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, pedal steel and violin is nearly perfect . If radio station The Coast were still around, "Twilight Red Sky" would be a natural for heavy play list rotation." Don Joyce, President, Toronto Exclusive Magazine. "A very talented vocalist with a big and unique voice." Paul Shugrue, Alternative Music Producer, WHRV 89.5 FM, Dec. 13th, 2007. "Skip Friel is on my list of 2007 Best Local Artists." Joyce Marie Morrin, Promotions Director WRRW FM 100.9. "one of the most talented songwriters I have discovered"....."an awesome talent." Jeff Maisey, The Virginian-Pilot, March 16th, 2007. "Acoustic artist Skip Friel is no stranger to local radio." Phyllis Speidell, Beacon, Compass, Clipper, Currents, June 10th, 2007. "Local fans should especially appreciate one of Friel's original tracks, Virginia Beach Blues." Bill Bass, Port Folio Weekly, July 10th, 2007. "Things are looking up for singer/songwriter Skip Friel." DeAnne M. Bradley, Link, July 13th, 2008. "Friel's smoky vocals complement the band's eclectic sound." -

Skip it was great to see you too! I had the best time the last 2 weeks..was so hard to come back to SC..I enjoyed listening live to you and the Resonators...you guys are awesome! I enjoyed meeting Sherry and Nathaniel..how precious they are! I am now slammed till Oct 6 with a marketing conference I help put together every year so I will be ready for a break for sure after that madness!
Please thank Sherry for the gift of your CD, I listened to it all the way home on that rainy 7 hour drive...made it much easier! Your music is awesome and you guys rock!
See you soon for sure!

Thanks Skip. We didn't end up using your song. We found a young man who has ambitions to write musical scores for film. Anyway I really like your music and maybe we can work on a project in the future:)
