Greetings from Moscow, maaaan! Downloaded ur first ep from strictlybeats some time ago and had a very good opinion about it. Now listenin for ur new release and it's reeeeeally dope too))) Wish u to have lot of listeners cause u r really talented! Respect)))
Hey skip, I just finished listening to Rooftops, here's what I think of the album.
First of all, I loved Jazzamentals, but I might put this just a head of it. I'm glad to see that the sophomore release still had the characteristics of what made the first one great (mellow downtempo sound, jazz infused melodies, and a steady hip hop beat), but there's more of a groove to this one. I went back and ran through Jazzamentals just to make sure, and I think with Rooftops you did an even better job matching up the samples and beats to create a steady groove from a pitch/melody point of view (does this even make sense? haha).
There's no off-song on the record. You'll listen to it all the way through and love every song. The guitar and piano elements blend perfectly but always stay fresh; there's a lot of new ideas in each song and they all work. Overall, a tremendous effort; love the album.
If I had to pick one song that really stands out, I'd say "Freddie Knows," but every person will have their own favorite. I was really feeling the song, but when you brought the sax in around :45 it just blew my mind.
Overall, I'd say that this keeps you up there amongst my favorite producers of this era: Damu, Dela, Presto, Perquisite, Odetta (Ohdee), and yours truly.
