warp records / warp mart
"it's rhythmically inventive with lots of strange noises, without being overcomplicated and has a minimal musical touch that's reminiscent of the best of simple electronica".
rocksound magazine
"standout track? standout album more like. every track nears perfection, from the dark grind of ‘saker’ to the bass-driven 80s homage ‘bagtag’...an intricate and beautiful masterpiece of sonic eloquence". 9/10
drowned in sound
"this long player deserves much more than a cursory listen, such is the talent displayed throughout the 35 minute trip inside the mind of its creator…if ‘systems and drafts’ is an indication of the standard of future releases to come from skoud, then winter in cumbria will be a little warmer, and a lot brighter this year".
new noise
"this debut is made up of choppy, minimalistic beats and robotic bleeps, creating spacey atmospheres tinged with warmth and personality…what’s more, the piano ballad ‘requiem for the art college’ is positively moving. four tet fans should have a gander".
glasswerk
"william burroughs once spoke of the rhythm and music of everyday life, and there is a strong sense of ambulant ambiance in this rich debut… buy this album and be there at the start of what i hope will be a very successful career".
i really love music
"a lot of electronica music can become a little…too interested in discovering new ways to fuck with your stereo system, it's great that simon has maintained the listenable quota throughout, with his constant use of drama and cinematic atmosphere, while still pushing his desire to experiment".
smother (editor's pick)
"if you could imagine aphex twin, encomiast, source direct, and the higher intelligence agency meeting the orb in a studio, drinking magic mushroom tea and armed with a bevy of synths, samplers, and drum machines, you could easily have just pictured “systems & drafts”.
terrascope
"full of skewed rhythms, delicate refrains and assorted pops, clicks, and whooshes, the sounds on the album are fresh and invigorating avoiding clichés and never overstaying their welcome".
Skoud (a contraction of his fore and surname) is one man. Born in Russia but moved to Sweden in 1995 where he taught himself drums, music and programming.
Skoud took a year out to study music recording/engineering in Carlisle, UK which is where he met Mark from Motive Sounds. Some demos from Skoud were exchanged which led to an album and EP being released by the label.
These releases are best described as collections of miniature electronic pieces that fuse the delicate melodies of Múm with the lush soundscapes of Boards of Canada. Skoud sound has gained universal praise, including a 9/10 review in Rocksound Magazine, a review and distribution from Warp Records online emporium, Warpmart and radio play on Nick Luscombes XFM ‘Flo Motion’ show. New material and a 'change in direction' is in the works.
Skoud also drums for Swedish instrumental band, Molia Falls.
An abnormal, crescent-shaped red blood cell that results from a single change in the amino acid sequence of the cell's hemoglobin, which causes the cell to contort which can clog arteries, especially under low-oxygen conditions.
Skoud is featured in my May show on Dandelion Radio, a John Peel-inspired online station playing exciting new and unsigned music. We are a fully-licensed Internet station that is run and presented by volunteers recording monthly shows.
