There is no one in the world that can tell Skunk One that determination and drive doesn’t pay off. He represents the true essence of both determination and drive. Skunk was born in 1977 in Mexico City. He has always been motivated by his family and they are the backbone for his life experiences. His proud parents grew up in Durango, Mexico but they knew there was much more in store for their family and Skunk One. Skunk and his family migrated to Los Angeles where he would be able to become the person he is today. Growing up in LA he learned that if there was something he wanted in life, he would have to go after it.
The biggest impact on his life growing up was music. It defined who he was and it allowed him to experience things outside his world. At an early age, the radio was a big part of life and he always dreamed about being showcased. By far, his biggest inspiration came from rap/hip hop music. In the early 80’s, the genre was just molding itself into a newly established culture. Even though he may not have realized it at the time, hip hop would become a major part of his life.
He was fortunate enough to be exposed to one of the most celebrated radio stations in hip-hop history, KDAY 1880 AM. Listening to KDAY made his love for the Rap/Hip-Hop culture grow more and more. His first experience with the culture came at the age of 15 when he started being a visual artist. The graffiti aspect of the culture allowed him to express himself through his art, and share his message with people everywhere. That is the power of hip hop.
Going through different aliases, friends began calling him “Skunk” because of the herbal stimulant of choice. At the age of 17, he managed to buy himself a mixer and other various recording equipment. His parent’s garage served as a make shift studio that was dubbed “The Lab”. One year later he decided to take making music seriously and he has not stopped since. He was first showcased on a single for a group “Low Budget.” In ’98 he recorded a solo song and several collaborations for the “Wall St. Journals” compilation CD. Skunk’s first solo project came in 2000 with the release of his album, “Made in Mexico.” That album is what paved the way for where Skunk is today. Since then he has performed for various events and with a laundry list of top notch performers.
His second album, “What Lies Ahead”, came out in 2004 and Skunk continued to show his versatility and skills. In October 2005, Skunk joined forces with one of the most well respected hip hop groups in the valley, SOL CAMP. SOL CAMP is a group of Latino MC's in Phoenix working to put their city on the radar. With the release of the first mix tape, SOL CAMP created a major buzz in the Phoenix Hip Hop world and received much love from major radio stations Power 98.3 FM and Latino Vibe 95.5. SOL CAMP is currently working on their first full length album that will be out soon.
Skunk One is force to be reckoned with and he is proving it year after year. In 2007 Skunk won the Cuerveton Contest in Phoenix and was invited to perform at the national contest in Chicago. He is currently working on his third album “Spanish 101”. This release will no doubt put Skunk back in the limelight and prove to everyone that he is here to stay. From his humble beginnings in Mexico City, to his life of dreams in the Valley of the Sun, Skunk One is proving that determination and hard work do pay off.

No hay nadien en el mundo que puede decir le a Skunk One que la determinación y la impulsión no paga. Él representa la esencia verdadera de la determinación y de la impulsión. Skunk nacio en 1977 en la Ciudad de México. Su familia siempre lo ha motivado y son la inspiracion para todas sus experiencias en la vida. Sus padres orgullosos crecieron en Durango, México, pero ellos sabían que había mucho más en la vida para su familia y Skunk One. Skunk y su familia emigraron a Los Ángeles donde él estuvo capaz de hacer la persona que él es hoy. Creciendo en LA él aprendió que si tenia algun deseó en vida, él tendría que ir después de él.
Uno de los impactos más grande en su vida era música. Definió quiénes él era y permitió que él experimentara cosas fuera de su mundo. Temprano en su juventud, el radio fue una parte grande de vida y él soñaba siempre tener una cancion en el radio. En gran medida, su inspiración más grande vino de la musica rap. En los 1980’s, el género de rap se estaba moldeando a una cultura nuevamente establecida. Aunque no lo realizaba en ese momento, rap seria una parte muy importante de su vida.
Él era bastante afortunado ser expuesto a una de las estaciones de radio celebradas de la historia de rap, KDAY 1880 AM. El escuchar KDAY hios su amor para la cultura de Rap crecer cada vez más. Su primera experiencia con la cultura vino a la edad de 15 cuando él comenzó a ser artista visual. El aspecto de la pintada en la cultura permitió que él se expresara con su arte, y comparte su mensaje con toda la gente. Ésa es la energía la cultura de rap.
Pasando con diversos alias, los amigos comenzaron a llamarlo “Skunk” o “mofeta”. Eso fue debido a el estimulante herbario de su preferencia. A la edad de 17, él manejó comprarse el mezclador de discos y otro vario equipo de grabación. El garage de sus padres sirvió como estudio de practica que fue doblado “The Lab” o “El Laboratorio”. Un año despuese él decidío tomar la produccion de música seriamente y no ha parado desde entonces. Él primero canto en un solo para un grupo “Low Budget”. En 1998 él grabo una canción solo y varios collaborations para el CD de la compilación “Wall St. Journals”. El primer proyecto solo de Skunk vino en el ano 2000 con el lanzamiento de su álbum, “Hecho en México”. Que es cuál el álbum solidificado la manera para donde está hoy Skunk One. Él se a presentado desde entonces para los varios acontecimientos y con una lista de los superiores de la musica rap.
Su segundo álbum, “What Lies Ahead”, fue producido en 2004 y Skunk continuado demostrando su flexibilidad y habilidades. En Octubre de 2005, Skunk ensambló fuerzas con uno de los grupos más respetados de rap en Phoenix, SOL CAMP. El Campo Del Sol es un grupo de Latino musicos en Phoenix poniendo la ciudad en el radar con su musica rap. Con el lanzamiento de el primer mixtape, El Campo del Sol creó un zumbido importante en el mundo de rap en Phoenix y recibió mucho amor de la comunidad. Las estaciones de radio Power 98.3 y Latino Vibe 95.5 tambien les dieron la opportunidad de tocar su musica al aire. El Campo del Sol está trabajando actualmente en su primer álbum integral que sera de venta pronto.
Skunk es una fuerza en la industria y lo está probando año después de año.
