SK Vibemakers are FX & Rainman or The lightskin boy & dark skin boy a North London based DJ duo born late 2002. SK Vibemakers have come through the stages, from Mcing in the school corridors & bedroom sets to pirate radio & commercial radio, playing in the clubs, putting on club events, hosting events, becoming respected mixtapes DJs, filming a DVD documentary, having a renowned podcast & more.
FX cites his close relationship in the 90’s with Tim Westwood as a crash course in radio production & smashing the clubs. Rainmans influences more stems from Reggae Dancehall & the sound system culture with sounds like Stone love & Bass odyssey. The deep musical background of these two contrasting genres combined, mixed with contrasting personalities creates the SK Vibemakers.
With FX recently being most recognised as the DJ & Rainman as presenter, few would actually know that the roles actually began as Rainman being the Jungle DJ & FX being the MC. This was life before the SK Vibemakers became official in 2002 with a slot on one of Londons most relevant pirate radio stations ‘DeJa Vu FM’. DeJa Vu had a big reputation & was the breeding ground for such talent as Dizzee Rascal, Kano, Lethal Bizzle, Wiley, Tinchey Stryder, Nasty crew, JME & Skepta. With the spotlight being so bright, this gave SK Vibemakers the platform & exposure to build a reputable show second to none on pirate radio SK Vibemakers remained on DeJa Vu until 2006 where they move to Pyroradio (internet) & Rinse (FM & internet).
Never content with just being the DJ playing commercial party favourites to get the phone line buzzing & carrying record boxes from venue to venue for a couple hundred pound, SK Vibemakers call was a different direction. Between 2003-06 SK Vibemakers were playing out every weekend at every hotspot in London to organising their own events Breathe (monthly residency at Cameos Oxford Circus progressing on to Market bar/Departure Lounge in Aldgate) & Disco Inferno (at Silks & Spice in Black Friars). But as SK started to wonder “Is there more to this game” the next phaze was to begin.
FX & Rainman explain: "We went hard on the radio shows, mixtapes & podcasts because we felt this was more important than ‘Pull up that’ in the raves…we done that already & reached fulfilment…Why prioritise our time playing party favourites to an average of 600 people when our mixtapes, radio shows & podcasts are getting out to many thousands in a week & creating die hard followers”…
Never one to pull punches, there are few interviews like an SK Vibemakers interview and over the years SK Vibemakers radio shows have boasted the biggest guests from: Bashy, Sway, Estelle, Faith SFX, Ghetto, Kano, Klashneckoff, Lethal Bizzle, N Dubz, Nolay, NY, Shystie, Skepta, Soundbwoy Ent., Taio Cruz, Wiley (Roll Deep), Wretch 32, Akon, Chamillionaire, Flo-Rida, Ja Rule, Lloyd, Rza (from the Wu-Tang Clan), Saigon, Sean Kingston, Shaggy, Soulja Boy, Swizz Beatz, Xzibit, Yung Joc, & more.
SK Vibemakers got serious with the mixtapes in 2006 teaming up with many popular UK artists & putting the majority of them up for free promotional download. SK Vibemakers artist mixtapes portfolio include: Aftershock, Sway, Bigz, Kano, Maxwell D, Boy better know, Mr Tibbs, Lethal Bizzle, Nolay, Sincere, Aynzli Jones & more plus over 20 various artist mixtapes mixing the best in UK & US Hip Hop. These mixtapes average downloads of 15,000 & have acquired press from Rwdmag, Touch magazine, HHC, Blues & Soul, D101, New Nation newspaper, The voice newspaper, Koo magazine & more. In 2007 the 1xtra mixtape awards nominated the mixtapes for ‘Best artwork’ & ‘Best mixtape’. SK Vibemakers have also started working with record labels in regards to working with their new artists to create street hype & in 2007 produced the official Dubplate Drama 2 mixtape to support the TV series.
SK Vibemakers entered the podcast world in 2007 when they teamed up with Urbanworld & UK Streetsounds to build up what is now considered ‘the number one podcast for the streets’. Since 2007 the fortnightly podcast has boasted special guests including: Taio Cruz, Estelle, Kano, Ndubz, Skepta, Ghetto, Bashy, Big Brovaz, Addictive, Delinquents & Kcat, Wideboys, Cleo (Formally of Cleopatra), Asher D, Duurty Goodz, Gemma Fox, Kaya, Sincere, Wretch 32 & more. The podcast goes out to Urbanworlds & UK Streetssounds 80,000 mailing list & listened to by an average of 20,000 a week.
2007 also saw SK Vibemakers release their limited DVD documentary ‘The chronicles’ which featured the best in UK talent from: Klashnekoff, Skinnyman, Sway, Kano, Ghetto, Akala, Mike GLC, Mitchell Brothers, Ghetto, Shola Ama, Gemma Fox, Killa Kella, Nathan, Nolay, Boy better know, Aftershock, Baby Blue, Rodney P, D Double E, Jamma, Roll Deep, Rass Kwame, Pro. Green, Sincere + many more. The DVD sold out all of the 2,000 stock without any major distribution & minimal press.
Another Fulfilling part of 2007 was the Festival of youth arts Youth Club tour which saw FX & Rainman visit London based Youth clubs, sitting on a panel of DJs & artists giving aspiring teenage musicians advice on getting into the music scene. Towards the end of 2007 SK Vibemakers also won an award in Touch magazine for ‘Best radio show’.
2008 has began with SK Vibemakers keeping up their high work rate in the fashion of starting work on their second documentary and piloting for the own online TV channel…..

Jay Collins and Mark Wagstaff AKA The Funk Junkies are Djs, producers and promoters from the north of England. Their club event 'charged' is one of the UK's fastest growing house brands throwing regular sell out parties across England, Malta and Ibiza. Last year saw the guys move up a gear and begin producing. In little under 12 months their productions have gained support from the likes of Steve Angello, Deepgroove, Sonny Wharton and more. The Funk Junkies first release on Elektriqa is a double A side. First up is Fragile, a peak time record with a simple yet hypnotic riff that definitely crosses musical boundaries. Gush, on the other hand is a dubby, twisted progressive house bomb graced with a tight and catchy lead. Keep an eye out for more Funk Junkies productions forthcoming on Elektriqa.
