   About Sky Picnic

With a love of music and a penchant for exploration, punctuated by elaborate and intense live performances, Sky Picnic bridges the gap between experimental and straight-forward music. Laden with creative songwriting, solid musicianship and a vintage, yet modernized feel, each Sky Picnic performance stands out as a one-of-a-kind musical trip that blurs the lines between music and art, with experimental instrumental breaks full of feedback, echoes and endless exploratory possibilities.

The band was founded by Chris Sherman (Lead Guitar/ Vocals) and Leah Cinnamon (Bass Guitar/ Vocals) in early 2007. After recording some primitive demos as a pysch-pop band with various intermittent drummers, the two eventually evolved, finding their niche in a more progressive genre. Pete Meriwether (Drums) joined the band in Oct 2008 to complete the trio of today. Sky Picnic has since released its first record, gigged around New York City, put out an experimental live record, been named the High Times band of the week, been played on national radio, and has been hailed as "one of the precursors of this era's Modern PsychProg movement" (Independisc).

Sky Picnic's debut EP "Synesthesia," which has been called "a marvelous debut" (Homemade LoFi Pych Blog), was self-released earlier this year and was subsequently picked-up for distribution by IndepenDisc, where it was the April 09 feature. Songs such as "Tea Break," an ode to perpetual sleepiness, and "the Wise Man Lost His Head," a dreamy psych song touching on our political landscape, are balanced out by the menacing sounds of "Moons of Jupiter" and "Sequence IV," the thirteen minute multi-part epic closer that "will melt faces" (Psychedelic Music Blog). Coupled with the aforementioned live performances, searing echo-drenched guitar solos, jazz influenced drums and pulsing fuzz bass, Sky Picnic re-creates the unique psychedelic experience that has been absent since the era of "Sgt. Pepper" and "Piper at the Gates of Dawn."

Sky Picnic’s first full length album, entitled “Farther In This Fairy Tale," is slated for release in January 2010.

What they're saying:

"Moons of Jupiter is a nice little jam built on a simple riff. The Wise Man Lost His Head is an early Floyd/Beatles/Elliot Smith on acid hybrid. The epic 6 part exploratory jam Sequence IV clocks in at 13:26 minutes and melts faces. Check these guys out!"- Geoff Thompson (Psychedelic Music Blog)

"Using each style to compliment the other, these guys marry the genres so seamlessly that they are definitely one of the precursors of this era’s Modern PsychProg movement." Gary (IndepenDisc)

"The songwriting hits the nail on Syd Barrett's head and the playing would fit nicely in an underground, pop-art soaked psychedelic club. Half the Queen's Face" is definitely a winner, throwing the Floyd's "Astonomy Domine" into a blender and making an groovy beast from the acid-soaked pulp left behind"Dr. Schluss (Dr Schluss' Garage)

"The post rock elements of Moons of Jupiter and the extended sprawl of Sequence IV are exceptional. When they move into this cavernous space, the band demonstrates that they indeed can invoke images of the outer limits in a sincere and forceful way." Frederick Foxtrott

"The Wise Man Lost His Head is a dreamy psychy track that has a nice fuzz bass section, which is followed by mellotron! You just have to hear it for yourself."- Scott (Low Cut)

"Indeed "Synesthesia" has got everything any serious psych head wants...Strongly recommended!!! "Synesthesia" is a marvelous debut!" Mike (Homemade lofi Psych Blog)

"'Moons of Jupiter' is a (soon to be) classic space-rock instrumental track that is held together with an echo-drenched ("Interstellar Overdrive" style) guitar lead and 'Sequence IV' is a 13+ minute multi-part opus that will make a Pink Floyd fan weep with joy." Brooklyn Mike (Brooklyn Rocks)
