Ima do it man. I am going to do it for 1 personal protection, 2 to increase awareness. From online sources it appears cops in CA are not aware that it is lawful, so I think if people like me put myself out on the streets of an incorporated city I can increase police awareness and hopefully allow for a more tolerant society towards open carry. It is in plain text in the Heath and Safety Code.

Hey man, as the time draws closer to me coming back to San Jose, I have been investigating CA gun laws. I thought it was a lost cause to open carry in my county. After my research, I discovered that you can open carry anywhere in the state almost! The catch is this: you must have it unloaded and magazines also be openly carried on a separate belt mounted case. What you read about it only being legal only in unincorporated areas is not true, that is only true for LOADED open carry. Of course, school zones, government buildings, and the city capital are off limits for open carry. A weapon can only be considered loaded if there is a round in the chamber or physically attached to the weapon (mag in well). Thought you'd find this interesting. I'm UOC'ing when I get back, as in NC I do it everyday, loaded and everything. Oh! What's even better is that local governments cannot ban this practice or regulate it because of the state's preemption laws.
