Whitney Slaten—SlatenSound's founder, owner, and operator—has carefully studied and practiced live sound reinforcement and recording for the past 15 years. He brings unique expertise to sound engineering: as a sound mixer, professional jazz musician, and ethnomusicologist, he is sensitive to the social significance of sound engineering across genres and cultures. His various writings on the subject include “The History, Design Criteria, and Application of Loudspeakers in the Context of Sound Reinforcement” and "Sounding the World: The Live Sound Engineering of World Music in New York City."
