Both of these guitars kick serious butt. Both cost very little, are expertly setup by myself, and each has its own purpose.
The ESP is a standard 25.5 inch scale guitar, purchased for around a hundy I think, that I outfitted with a DiMarzio "FRED" humbucker in the bridge position for searing leads and a very powerful and punchy rhythm tone. Perfect for speed metal ala Slayer, Metallica, ect.
The Yamaha is the newest addition to my harem, purchased at a pawnshop for $50 as a Christmas present for myself. It is a Drop Six model featuring a 26-inch scale length neck. This setup allows me to string it up with heavier strings and tune it down low to achieve the tones used by Carcass, Six Feet Under, Cannibal Corpse, (and yes, even Korn!) It is actually like a seven string guitar with six strings. With it's double locking Floyd Rose Tremolo, Dragon Fire active pickup system (custom installed by yours truly), and its killer look and feel, it Will leave one to ask, "How Low can you go?"
