It's been a while since I had a rehersal with my last band: years ago,
if you ask me!
A couple of years ago, however, I decided to try a different way for
making music, exploiting new cheap technologies that a notebook
and the web can offer to the music-addicted people, even if they're
without any other band member to reharse or write music with.
Don't get me wrong: It's not that I had enough of bandmates or
of the time spent in scheduling reharsing sessions when everyone
of my friends involved in music was attending university or working
or doing anything else just for a living...
It's just my own way to face the need of making music, even now
that I'm moving a lot, trying to break into the working class :-D
Usually, I can take even 5-6 months to complete a song: good ideas
are not so easy to find when there have been over 5 decades of very
good rocking tunes... And by writing alone, I'm often messing around
with a 3months old chorus, a 1year old intro... and so on...
Although a good drum or bass loop can easily inspire a nice vocal
melody or a guitar riff, playing with other people, in my opinion,
greatly speeds up the creative stream, and It brings good results in much less time... You know: in the end you always have to sit down and actually write:
Technology won't ever substitute human creativity!
Sometimes, writing alone can even lead to nervous tension,
that I fight smoking cigarettes (hence the name of the project).
However, though alone, now I'm free of doing it when I can, when I want...
and how I want (obviusly).
According to this freedom in making music, I decided I wouldn't have
payed any fee for a registration to the SIAE, SACEM, SGAE... or any
other similar association: I think they're almost the main cause for having
such high prices for recently released albums from all over
the world, so they won't have any more money by me.. except
for the true masterpieces I collect and buy when I can.
All the tracks available in this web space, are released under a
Creative Commons license, which is "Attribution Non-Commercial
No Derivatives" (the most restrictive, I know, but it will be changed
as soon as I can understand more about all the stuff dealing with
copyleft, Jamendo, Creative Commoners' rights and Opsound project.
Everyone can download, play, redistribute (via p2p too) and listen to
the tracks... as long as it's well-known that they're made by Mir4ggio,
formerly Alberto De Luca, a.k.a. SLAVE NICOTINE PROJECT: I think
this is the right way of using the net, as an exchange medium for
various types of contents, letting ideas and music circulate within
a subset of people who already are thinking a lot about music, who
actually listen to a lot of tracks via P2P, and can become an active
part in developing a critical aesthetic that's different from the mainstream imposed by the major labels and by MTV!
