About me:
WHAT IS THE SLAY-A-THON: It's a full day of watching some of the best of the best episodes of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel", meeting and laughing with other "fans," and having a great time while simultaneously raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois. You are not required to attend the entire event. Stay for the day or stop by for your favorite episodes. Now, you may ask "How can watching 'Buffy' and 'Angel' raise money? If that were the case I'd already be rich. Hooray!" We're able to raise money because people who attend the marathon get friends, family, and co-workers to "sponsor" them - just like with a walkathon, or other fundraising events of that type. Add the auction proceeds to the sponsor dollars and we’ll make a substantial donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois.

WHERE IS THE SLAY-A-THON? We will be in the Show Room at Dave & Buster's - Goldcoast in Downtown Chicago. The address is 1030 N. Clark Street (Clark at Oak). Phone is (312) 943-5151. Directions are available from the Dave & Buster's Web site.

WHEN IS THE SLAY-A-THON? The 2008 Slay-A-Thon date is TBD. It begins at 11:00 AM and ends at midnight (12:00 AM). You are not required to attend the entire event. Stay for the day or stop by for your favorite episodes.

The people at Buffy & Angel: The Authors and Save Angel work hard to successfully organize and host the one BtVS/AtS event that will leave you feeling eager to join the next contest. But you'll need to have your face buried into the television, watching reruns of the shows, if you want to have a better chance at winning. ------------------------------------------------------ INTRODUCING SOMETHING NEW BtVS Contests NOW INCLUDING SEASON EIGHT! WHAT ARE WE AT SAVEANGEL.ORG AND BTVS-ANGEL-AUTHORS.NET.TC USING TO CELEBRATE THE ADDITION OF SEASON EIGHT? Scott Allie has sent us one SIGNED copy each of the first 5 issues of SEASON EIGHT! And the winner’s going to be sent them next! Since March of this year, two great websites (em-hmm, if I may say so myself) have been working to create a fun, well-organized online competitive game for Buffy and Angel fans. The contests, which kicked off in April, have only included actual television episodes. However, Season Eight, which is delivered to readers monthly through a comic book published by DARK HORSE COMICS, is now into its 7th issue. Kelly	May 15 2007 2:16 PM Just want to spread the word that our Buffy CCG group is having an event at a shop (Pandora's Box) in Waterloo Iowa the weekend of May 18th through May 20th. It's called Weekend-O-Buffy. They're actually starting the evening of May 17th by closing the shop early and doing a Buffy Role Playing Game (RPG) event for those interested. On Friday some of us are going to get together for our first (what we hope is annual) Buchanon/Wilkens Memorial Mini-Golf Spectacular in honor of the two Buffy episodes Ted (where Ted took Joyce, Buffy, Xander and Willow miniature golfing) and Enemies where Mayor Wilkens told Faith that miniature golf takes away all the pain. After that we'll be spending the rest of the weekend playing the Buffy CCG game. The first tournament at 3pm on Friday is a Sealed Deck tournament where participants donate $10 (all of which will go to Slayathon). I think last year they raised about $160 and I think they may come close to doubling that this year. There will be prizes and free food for anybody able to play in the tournaments. And certainly we hope to help raise aware of the Slayathon. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone finds themselves in Iowa that weekend. If anyone needs more detail they can email me or check out the Buffyccg.com website.

Okay, so one vote from the Old Guy for a Smelly Cheese Night, and how many votes for actual fun, huh? -Xander Major Fundraising boo-boo numero 1: Not following up with potential donors So, Your first round of fundraising letters and emails resulted in a number of donations from sponsors. Unfortunately there are many people who have not responded. Oh well, they just decided that they didnt want to donate to you, right? WAAAAANNNNAN (my bad version of a buzzer) Wrongo little buckaroo- Just because you havent heard from someone you were hoping would be a sponsor does not mean that they do not want to donate. Think about how busy your own life is between work, school, family, and managing Buffy on Tivo. The truth of it is that your sponsors are just as busy as the rest of us- and its easier to overlook a want to do item, than those nagging have toos. There is the all to good of a chance that the fundraising letter you sent cousin Sue might have gotten lost in her stack of bills. Or, she was hoping to see you soon. The email you sent Aunt Terri might still be sitting in her inbox. My favorite-they werent sure how to get it to me. Allow each potential sponsor an amount of time to respond and then follow up with a call, a letter or an email. You decide how long- for me I go weekly on e-mail, monthly on mail, and if I happen to talk to them I let them know how I am doing in my fundraising. (I try not to pester) It really is important to remind them just how much you appreciate their support.
