With 5 of the top studio and live musicians from around the US, Slaymaker Hill began as an Irish pub band in Salt Lake City that eventually evolved into it's own brand of celtic/american/jam music that is fresh and unique. Eric Slaymaker, vocalist & guitarist turned mandolin whiz who played for years with bands in San Francisco, is the founder, Kenny Gordon on piano via Groves School of jazz in LA, drummer Chris Carroll recently arrived in Utah from NYC, Dennis Harrrington, orchestra conductor in Park City originally from Chicago, and music professor Randy Budd on bass, who hails from St. Louis. For the new RCEG release, the band also recruited popular violin player Chas Waltz, who is always busy touring the US or Europe with the YOUNG DUBLINERS.
A trip to Ireland a few years ago rekindled Eric’s celtic influences, and after a few days visiting numerous bars and pubs of the isle, Eric realized that he must form a top notch Celtic pub band. After a quick stop at the music shop in Shannon, where Eric bought an Irish whistle, he was off, back to the States to brandish the best of bastardized Irish music stew that he could muster.
During recording the band quickly evolved from Irish to an eclectic Progressive Celt Jam band. "I really have wanted to meld the best of celtic music, American mountain bluegrass, & progressive rock into something that ended up somewhat unique", according to Eric.
The album found its way into the hands of music industry veteran Roger Christian, who proceeded to convince Eric to record in Los Angeles with multi-platinum producer Jim Wirt. Jim recruited fiddle player Chas Waltz, of the Young Dubliners, to guest perform on the first album… and the rest is history. The band has performed primarily around the western US and the SLC area, including at the Sundance Film Festival and is currently awaiting the RCEG release of their debut album.
