   About Shaun Blezard

'Thank you once again for your involvement with the R Factor project. Your talent, integrity and enthusiasm for the work you do, is very much appreciated by all those who have the good fortune to work with you.' - Andy Halsey - Musiclinks

Shaun Blezard

I worked in the shipyards in Barrow until redundancy inspired me to become an audio/visual artist. I've since worked as an artist, musician, producer, composer and workshop leader. I'm an experienced live sound technician, sound recordist and sound designer, working in film, live venues and theatres.

I'm also Artistic Director of Earth Monkey Productions, a non-profit making organisation promoting sonic art. I've played all over the UK as bassist for many bands and since 2000 have been gigging as an electronic musician/sonic artist.

I am currently playing/recording as:

Clutter (Solo experimental ambient dance)

Orfeo 5 (Jazz/improv/electronics/spoken word)

Deep Clutter (Duo of voice and electroacoustic improvisation)

Id Of Mobius (Experimental electronics quartet)

Good Noise Bad Noise (Electroacoustic multimedia collective)

I am also resident sound man for Tongue Tide a fantastic acoustic based singer songwriter duo, handling live sound and studio recordings for them.

Track details:

Workshop Productions Showreel (2009)
A commissioned work for Workshop Productions - a film production company based in Lancaster. The music is for a showreel of their work to send to clients. They had a strong sense of what they wanted the music to achieve and my job was to turn this into music with certain things happening along a timeline. I sketched out some ideas and we emailed ideas back and forth till they had a track they loved.

+++

The R Factor - Cambridge Street Primary School (2009)
The R Factor was a project run by Musiclinks for Resource Cumbria to highlight the message of recycling in Cumbria. The project was run as a competition to write a radio jingle about recycling and was open to Primary schools in the county. I was one of the tutors employed by Musiclinks to facilitate this and had 2 hours or so with each class to write and record their entry. This example is fromn Cambridge Street in Barrow who were finalists and got to perform their entry live at Rheged.

+++

Treedance (2005)
Written with the young people's theatre group at The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal for their adaptation of Where The Wild Things Are, as part of workshops by Musiclinks.

+++

Thumbelina (2006)
Co-written with folk musician Mike Willoughby for short film The Egg, directed by Steve Wharton for Shoreline Films. We were given a rough cut of the film by Steve along with notes and then met at my studio to record live playing from Mike on a variety of instruments. I then made a series of loops from this and constructed the finished tracks around them adding my own electronics and beats to the mix.

+++

Crazy Town (2007)
Written with young people as part of Music Factory - a Youth Music funded 3 year music making project I helped run for Barrow Borough Council. Music factory was about young people learning to write songs about subjects that interested them and Crazy Town is about skate boarding. The young people wrote and played the track and performed it on stage at Forum 28 in Barrow and also in Carlisle Town Centre.

+++

Spin The Wheel (2009)
Clutter vs The Relics - I was commissioned to remix local hard rock band The Relics for a series of viral films by Workshop Productions on the subject of safe drinking amongst young people. The Relics were involved but the script was set in a night club so I was brought in to take the rock sound of The Relics and to do 'dance' remixes to fit the script. Each track was 30 seconds long for the project but I ended up doing full versions aswell.

+++

Sonic Picnic edit (2009)
I was commissioned by Soundwave to write a piece of music for Sonic Picnic, Cumbria's first festival of sonic art in 2009. This was based at the ground breaking hub - a 3D sound installation in Workington Town Centre. I also played live during the festival and this is an edit of a stereo mixdown of my 2nd set - The full recording of this can be found here

+++

Grizedale Postcard (2005)
I was a project leader for the Sonic Arts Network on the Cumbria leg of Sonic Postcards an environmental sound project funded by NESTA. The aim of the project was to produce an audio 'postcard' of an area working with local schools. This one was made by Barrow Island Primary School as part of a residential at Grizedale Forest.

+++

Sofa Surfers End Titles (2008)
Sofa Surfers was produced by BiFocals 1999 for Barrow Borough Housing Authority highlighting homelessness in Barrow as part of an educational pack to go to schools in the area. I was sound recordist and film editor on the film and also wrote the soundtrack.

+++

Sleepwalk (2006)
Part of a soundtrack to short film The Paperlad produced by BiFocals 1999. I was in charge of all aspects of sound, from sound recording, foley to post production. I also wrote most of and produced all of the soundtrack. The soundtrack made use of the recurring piano theme by Tim Fleming and also the sound of seagulls. Watch the film and listen out - you can hear seagulls everytime someone gets emotional.
