hey there, I really enjoy the Comissions album... Celebrate and Lowick School Pop are particular highlights. (I keep picturing the pupils feeling like stars for a day!) 'the recording of TIDERACER is delightful; not only does it make me want to be a kid again, it sort of makes me feel compelled to inhale helium and at least try to sound like a kid again. yr recordings are separate from everything else; each is one of a kind. beautiful' Ginger Eades on Tideracer (written for LEAP '05 Dance Festival - Dance Soundtrack)

'The Soundtrack is moving - a great idea using iron works sounds as percussive instruments - Great' - Written in comments book for Men Of Steel installation (artgene, Barrow 2002 - Soundtrack)

   About Shaun Blezard

Shaun Blezard

I'm a community based audio/visual artist who lives in Cumbria, UK. I've worked as an artist, musician, producer, composer and workshop leader for the likes of Sonic Arts Network, Welfare State International, The Sage Gateshead, Youth Music, Whitewood & Fleming, Age Concern, Grizdale Arts, Shoreline Films, The Ashton Group, Connexions, The Word Hoard and Barrow Borough Council.

I'm also an experienced live sound technician and sound recordist and I run Earth Monkey Productions - a non-profit making company and net label speciallising in promoting experimental electronic music.

I have been an active member of the music community in the North of England for over 20 years and still have a passion for playing live since my first gig in 1986, playing bass for indie band The Peach Thieves. I have played all over the UK as bassist for many bands and since 2000 have been gigging as an electronic based musician/sonic artist. This has been alongside working within the community passing on my many musical skills and enthusiasm to people aged 8 to 80. This has seen me working with young rock and pop bands, showing all ages music technology, sound recording and production. and promoting a fair few gigs along the way.

Outside of my commissioned work I am currently playing/recording as:

Clutter (Solo experimental ambient dance) - photo album

Good Noise Bad Noise (electroacoustic drone multimedia 4 piece) - photo album

Orfeo 5 (Jazz/improv/electronics/spoken word)

Id Of Mobius (Experimental electronics quartet)

I am also resident sound man for Tongue Tide a fantastic acoustic based singer songwriter duo, handling live sound and studio recordings for them.

Websites

I have been working in the visual field since branching out in 2003. I have been working on my own experimental films as well as being involved in many community projects involving film and multimedia in this time.

Before becoming a freelance audio/visual artist I have in the past worked in a shipyard, a biscuit factory, various shops and offices and been a librarian, as well as trying college for a bit before settling on a career as an musician, because let's face it - I get to sleep in more :- )

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Track details:

Clutter - Slán Abhaile
Taken from the forthcoming Clutter album On Ha'Penny Bridge, which will be available for free download via Earth Monkey Productions in June.

Orfeo 5 - Beyond The Surf
Taken from the orfeo 5 album A Year On The Ice, which is out now and available to buy below. This version of orfeo 5 is me on electronics/treatments and Keith Jafrate on saxophone.

'Jafrate's saxophone alternates between atonality and lyricism with sublime ease and Blezard's noises can be both unobtrusive and leading depending on the particular compositions, and I'm pretty sure they are compositions as nothing here feels particularly improvised. Both players interlink almost seamlessly' - Wonderful Wooden Reasons

Clutter - Live at Sonic Picnic
A recording of a live set @ Sonic Picnic, Cumbria's first festival of sound, music and sonic art brought to you by Soundwave. The festival was centred around the ground-breaking ambisonic soundfield in the centre of Workington, The Hub.

The recording is a stereo mixdown of Clutter's 2nd live set of live ambisonics that day. He was also comissioned to write a sound installation as his contribution to the festival.

Let's Celebrate
Written with pupils from Brisbane Park Primary School as part of Music Factory - a Youth Music funded 3 year music making project I helped run for Barrow Borough Council.

Clutter - Between The Lines
I've heard the expression reading between the lines but wondered what listening between the lines would sound like....so.....I edited a narrative by my friend Kate Davis to include only the audio between her lines of narrative. Released under the Clutter name as an exclusive track to the compilation Necktar 2017

Id Of Mobius - Centrifuge 1
Recorded at Frakture's Centrifuge 1 in Salford 2008, playing with Ian & Harry of Fonik and Si of Noiseclub. Listen to full recordings from Centrifuge 1 here - I play on 'First Piece First' and 'Electronics Quartet'

Centrifuge brings improvisation, music and performance together in a Manchester Based activity initiated by Frakture Liverpool. Centrifuge 1 featured musicians from accross the region who combined in small groupings on the night to deliver a programme of free improvisations.

Thumbelina
Co-written with folk musician Mike Willoughby for short film The Egg - which can be seen over to the left of this page. I recorded some music by Mike then cut and chopped and reworked it into the soundtrack to the film.

Clutter vs Susan Matthews - Hushed Deep Dub
Taken from the Slow Corrosion EP featuring Clutter reworkings of Susan Matthews material. Released by Earth Monkey Productions as part of their Collectors Series of limited editions.

‘belongs to the darkest territories of trip hop with dragging beats slowly moving in creepy electronic atmospheres assisted by the voice of Susan Matthews that in its style reminds a bit of Kim Gordon from the early years of Sonic Youth’ - Vital Weekly

Good Noise Bad Noise - Old Thaws Hoedown
Taken from the Joist Hounds EP featuring tracks recorded for The Download Show on www.oldhamcommunityradio.com. Released by Earth Monkey Productions as part of their Collectors Series of limited editions.

‘The music is dynamic and has an easy momentum and flow that removes this from the noise for noise sake ghetto into one that is far, far more interesting and worth further investigation’ - Wonderful Wooden Reasons

Round & Round
Written for the film The Paperlad - again viewable from this page. A film written and directed by John Hall of The Cardboard Lung. I was in charge of all aspects of sound - recording, foley, post production - on The Paperlad.

Features vocals by Ann Wilson and guitar by Ben Cornwell

Sean,
That was Striding Edge - Version 1.0 (+ unknown guests - Backing vocal & Roto-toms etc) - on the Bruised Casserole widget. I think it was the first non Céilidh gig, upstairs at some Barrovian pub/club (am sure you know/remember) - 1995??? Recorded on a slightly dodgy old reel-to-reel that did not like the top end and made it warble - especially the bagpipes...
Yes, just letting a few old bits out of the archives - just the tip of the ice burger... Yum. All the beast to ya.
