Sounds Like
You know how in the sixties there were all these folk-singers singing on corners under street-lamps, and they always sang pretty songs about flowers and running away and pretty girls riding horses; then way out in the woods or maybe the desert there were these weird freaky cult-like people, and guess what? They also liked the song-singing and music playing, just because you believe in destroying society or worshipping Baphomet is no reason not to enjoy a good old fashioned campfire sing-a-long. And if the songs are made up right there on the spot, the more the poignant for they're sung once and then they float away like the smoke from that very-same campfire.
Flash forward thirty years later and kids in their bedrooms all-at-once across this great nation discover something--hey! There's no emotions in our songs, and isn't that what makes us humans--emotions? Not fucking automatons? And so, soon, little tight tee-shirted ones you stumble in the snow across the angel of EMO. But what happens when the same soul-crushing song-mongerers start slipping into your bedrooms at night and start stealing your songs, or even worse buying them off you, well then, as a generation of shorn lambs is discovering--you get false emo. Emotions mass-produced and pre-packaged. Even emotions can be simulated (imperfectly) by the machines they're building up in Washington and LA. But not ours, little ones, never ours. Grab your guitar, grab a friend, kiss the snow, sing, live, love, explore, set fires for no reason at all, make the movies you wanted to as a kid, drive with the lights off and listen to us, come along with us--from the bedrooms to the woods. DEATH TO FALSE EMO!!!
Sleepaway Camp formed in 2002 and we made a handful of songs that are not worth mentioning. We went on hiatus for a while and made DIE A VIRGIN with two other amazing individuals. (look for DIE A VIRGIN's site on myspace!)
From this bold experiment, we discovered that "writing" songs is not all it's made out to be, so we decided to lay out the old instruments and make our songs up as we went, committing ourselves only to the moment, the only way to make true emo. (Not that we consider ourselves "emo" per se...)
We have been recording in private on and off for a few years now and we have five albums recorded to date. They are: All Souls Day, All Saints Day, Snowball Dance, Nothing Ever Happened Until Now, and Angler. We plan to record a sixth album very soon to complete our "seasons" series. It shall be an album with an Autumnal theme.
If you are interested in any of our music, please send us a message and we will be glad to send you a CD.
