Here's what some really nice people have said about Sleepybird:
"Although Sleepybird works within a minimal framework the four versatile musicians are able to expand the music to massive levels through the discordant interplay between distressed strings, acoustic guitar and scattershot electronics. This approach allows the group to heighten the musical tension with hauntingly beautiful results."
--Don Thrasher
Dayton Daily News
"...the only band on Earth that can make a trombone sound so beautiful that itll break your heart and fix it all in one song."
-- Tim Death
Dayton Daily News, Pool Party Magazine
"...they utilize diverse sounds and textures such as those found in the country or folk music pantheons of the early to middle part of the last century, 1960s garage, early 1970s R & B, Hawkwind-like space effects, and Calesque-stringed static."
--Greg Helms
Dayton City Paper
"When I hear Sleepybird's music, I imagine being happily stoned in the arms of a lover on the deck of a ship lost at sea, the moon flickering overhead in the fog as the waves gently rock the vessel to sleep and the real world is all but forgotten. But, lucky for you, there's no need to pack Dramamine."
Sleepybird's music is a unique combination of acoustic instrumentation and modern technology. In addition to their regular stage appearances, they work side by side in constant collaboration with painters, sculptors, designers, costumers, writers, directors, dancers and photographers to help influence the sights and the sounds.
The band was formed in
the winter of 2004 when singer-songwriter Nick Tertel started playing his homespun ditties on the
local musicians' co-op circuit. Thinking that
he could benefit from a larger sound, Nick recruited Jason Dryden and George Eninger of Fermata, trombonist Dustin Malone, keyboard player Todd Herbert and Shon Walters on drums. Sleepybird has been touring incessantly, finding fans all over the country. Meanwhile on the recording front, their debut CD No Flood received great reviews and featured paintings by Kemper. Their second CD All Things Are Mine was released in 2006 on Dermusik Records. The artwork was created especially for the album by Amy
Kollar-Anderson.

I am not a fake. I don't pretend I'm only love or good energy and I don't expect nor want people to try and force me to be so. I am the totality of the human experience and I don't live the delusion of just being love or thinking that is the goal of life. Why should I deny things that I am and try to only be a small part of what is me? I don't need to act like an idealism thinking others are going to think I'm enlightened. I am comfortable being a human and embracing all parts of my humanity because I'm not in denial of what I am. I proudly walk around feeling hate and love, sadness and happiness, because I accept myself. My art and myself are not purely love or good energy. Maybe a fraction of my art is love or good energy because that is only a fraction of who I am. I don't live in a dream land full of delusions but I live in reality and know I'm a human that is everything humans are, inside. My art is the totality of the human experience and when people approach me, I want them to feel everything, because that is what we are and can experience.
A new product line I'm working on. These are hand turned frames with watercolor paper adhered to them tucked in an inset grove. I can do portraits on them and do paintings as large as 20 inches. (from edge to edge of frame)
Funny, one can write one letter and get many responses. Some say, good job, way to say what needs to be said, others say, that is negative and bad. Is it wrong to say what you think is right or what your feelings are? Should we hide away and never express our feelings? Which person is correct, is the perspective of "awesome writing" correct or the perspective of being negative correct?
Lets say you have an activist who claims to be full of love. This activist protest and puts up a fight to change the world. They write tons of negative crap about things they don't like. Is that wrong? What about a person who is an activist in art with strong opinions. Should they shut their mouths because others cry like babies? Should an activist not stop politics they don't like because some people think it is negative?
