   About Sleepy Horses
OUR NEW RECORD AVAILABLE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD: Golden Light EP Free Download via www.sleepyhorses.net -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sleepy Horses began in a living room in Lubbock, TX. Colt Miller, Amanda Shires, and Nic Goodson began recording lush West Texas folk....this project became Sleepy Horses. Within a few months Nic Goodson moved to Athens, GA.....there he began to play solo under the Sleepy Horses moniker and later would add several other members including Jason Peckham, Brandi Goodson, Jim Wilson, Kyle Harris, and Matt "Pistol" Stoessel....with this larger lineup in place, the band began to tour extensively throughout the Southeast, East Coast, and thru the West.....they also recorded an album, "Somewhere Out West, Lonesome For You". Within one week of releasing the record everything fell apart. Nic Goodson died in a hotel room on November 25, 2006. After being discovered by a hotel maid, he was taken to the hospital where he was revived. This incident forced Goodson to return to his homestate of Texas to recover.....he had suffered massive nerve damage to his right leg and was told that he may never walk again. While in TX, Goodson recovered slowly....after a few months he had even taught himself to walk again. Goodson made several treks thru Texas during his recovery visiting honky tonks, juke joints, and SXSW. On March 22, 2007 Nic Goodson played his first show in Athens, GA. This marked the next phase in Sleepy Horses' story. Over the course of the next year, the band (a trio including Justin Gregg on bass and Dave Forker on drums) went on to win the Flagpole Athens Music Award for Best Roots Rock Band in 2007, toured extensively throughout the Southeast, East Coast, and West, appeared at SXSW, as well as many other Festivals, and finished work on "The Golden Light" the album written by Goodson while he was recovering. At present the band continues to tour and is gearing up to release "The Golden Light". The band has also expanded and changed.....Nic's good friend Ryan Scott has moved from Lubbock, TX to play guitar, mandolin, and keys....and Taylor Sproull (Southern Bitch, Kaitlyn Jones) has joined the band on drums. This new version of Sleepy Horses promises to be strong live and continue the densely layered shoegaze country that REM's Peter Buck has called, "Epic and Grand Soundscapes".

Mrs.
Gowanus
By (H+) M.S.G.
(from the archives)

Mrs.
Gowanus, the line between us is so fine
What makes people act the way they do?
Mrs.
Gowanus, this bar will be forever ours
Why did you have to leave us so soon?
It couldn’t have been the right time
It couldn’t have been so soon
Mrs.
Gowanus, the lines between us are so fine
What secrets do you hide?
What futures can you tell me?
Looking into the cup you hold
Mrs.
Gowanus, are you really so old,
That you alone know,
When the truth becomes lies,
Through the passage of time?
Mrs.
Gowanus, why are you singing to the stones?
Do they tell you what you need to know?
Our seats are so far away
Mrs.
Gowanus, the line between us is so fine
What makes people act the way they do?
Mrs.
Gowanus, are we really losing you?
