There's just me, my hands, my fingers and my foot. What else d'you want, a bass drum on my back and cymbals 'tween my knees?
Influences
There's too many to list them all. Now there's John Lee Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins, Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. They're the big five. What I love about these guys is that they each have their own style and while some would say they're not always musical, don't keepo good time, can't carry a tune or what not they know what to do in order to get the music out and have their message heard. And that's what matters, y'know? Having something to say and saying it. Now, in their way these guys were all masters at what they did but they sure wouldn't be winning any prizes at the county fair. They sing a natural music that comes from deep inside and it's that attitude that I'm trying to lift more then any particular licks or riffs, songs or styles, sounds or messages.
Other guys who make me want to make my noise? I love lots of the pre-war stuff from Charley Patton to BBQ Bob and beyond. Then there's the White Stripes who can take this old sound and make it new and I respect that. Ditto the Black Keys and Little Axe. I could go on about bands that have influenced me all day but I'll have to boil the kettle and make a cup of tea and settle down for a good chat but I don't have the time and neither do you. Another time maybe.
