Born in Nigeria, Ten grew up with many musical influences from the King Sunny Ade to the great Fela. As a result his parents soon began to see the musical talent he harnessed, from a young age. From Nigeria, Ten moved to England to further his education. Here he continued to nurture his musical talent during music class as well as at home. England introduced Ten to a wider musical genres, including Pop, Indie, Hiphop and Soul, which he listened to constantly.
At the age of 12, Ten graduated from junior school to secondary school where he met with people of his ability in musical talent. Soon Ten became close with a clique of musical stars and they began to make songs together. At this time, garage music was becoming popular in England, and Ten felt it right to indulge into it. The crew of musical stars was nameless at this point, but each member, including Ten, began to write lyrics. Ten found his inspiration from UK Cru’s such as Pay as U Go, Roll Deep and Lime House Cru, who appeared frequently on Rinse Fm.
In August 21, 2001, Chaos Cru was formed consisting of Members: Fury (Ten), Rosside (Ross), Antrino (Antoine), G(Aaron), Machete’(Richard), Delirious (Kevin), Viper (Daleep). Without enough funds for recording equipment, Chaos cru relied on their secondary schools music facilities for the opportunity to record tracks. The first demo they made together was a freestyle over a Yamaha beat on the schools keyboard. It came out fair for a first demo, but they soon faced opposition and harsh critique from rival cru’s Ruffnex and PMD.
As a result Chaos cru was short lived and several members left in March 2, 2002. This drastic change caused Ten to change from an emcee to a producer, as his heart became more into the technical side of music. With fewer members, Chaos cru decided to change its name. In October 14, 2002 Nightmare Squad was born consisting of members: Specos (Ten), Delirious (Kevin), Antman (Former Killerman Clan member), Scoundrel (Taeshan), Ace (Richard), Blitz (Daleep) and Chunky D (Alan).
The new look worked instantly, and they began to write new songs, abandoning their previous work. Upon this new change, Nightmare squad got a chance to work with Flamin’ from Rollin G and Crisis from Ruffnex. Together, the track entitled Chaos Anthem was produced.
It received such great feedback that Chaos anthem was requested to be performed in Norlington School. In February 2003, Nightmare had their first performance which rocked the house.
From then, Specos (Ten), decided to release the beat for Chaos anthem, renaming it Nightmare anthem. It also received great feedback, and was even played on Mystic Fm 98.1 on a Scare Dem set. Emcees from Earz, LG to Flamin’ performed over it in their live set. This morale boost caused Ten to approach Ramboss from Jahst Productions, and Crisis from Ruffnex to make another hit.
Putting together a composed beat with a 6 track on a Yamaha keyboard, Ten, along with Ramboss and Crisis, made a second hit entitled, Back In The Day. It was recorded on tape for a template to use in a proper studio, but unfortunately it didn’t get finished.
Soon Nightmare Squad began to part ways in June 22, 2003. Blitz became more of a solo artist, Ace renamed himself to Preacher and become a born again Christian. Delirious focused on his musical sound along with Scoundrel. Specos (Ten) thought his musical dream was over until he received news from his parents that they were moving to New York.
In May 27, 2004 Ten abandoned the name Specos and moved to New York with new opportunities in mind. He began to school in Edward R. Murrow High school where he immediately saw vast musical talent. Making himself known, Ten began to human beat box while others would rap to it. He soon earned a name for himself in the school and found himself another group of talented individuals to work with.
In April 9, 2005 Ten formed a group with members Payso (Nachive), T.M.R (Shamar), Lil Mama (Latia), Mickey (New IMAG), Chico Stick (New IMAG). The group had no name, but they began to make songs together.
Becoming increasingly serious at producing, Ten began to compose beats with the music program Cakewalk.
Unfortunately more hardship hit Ten when the New IMAG members and Lil Mama left the school in late 2005. Ten was forced to search for new talent. Upon months of arduous searching, ten found new artists Ticia and Aryeh. Together, along with TMR and Payso, Ten Stars was formed.
They began to record tracks using the schools recording facilities and came out with their first track “Next To Me”. Payso was not featured on the single for certain musical reasons. The track received positive feedback and was performed in the school winter concert.
Things were looking great for Ten Stars until Payso decided to leave to go to Philadelphia to pursue his own musical vision. He left with no bad blood, but Ten new he needed more artists. Thus he began to search for further talent picking up Heaven, Double G and Angel on the way. He decided to stick with them and continued to record Aryeh and Ticia’s Album.
Payso continued to purchase beats from ten and made the hit “Gun Smoke”, with his newly formed team GunSmoke.
Ten also discovered G Gwap and produced his hit “Getting Gwap” in May 2006.
Present
Lil Mama has been signed by Jive, Payso is still performing, TMR is preparing his comeback mixtape, Ticia and Aryeh are back in the studio to finish of their albums and the rest of the Ten Star team is going back into the studio.
