Big thanks to Ash Grunwald for playing us on JJJs Roots n' All
"My daddy knew a lot of guitar players and most of them didn't work, so he said
'You should make up your mind to either be a guitar player or an electrician, but I never saw a guitar player that was worth a damn.' " ...Elvis Presley
This month we mostly have Catie Curtis (with a Richard Thompson cover), Lindsay Fuller and The Cheap Dates (and who amongst us isn't?), Josh Fix with a track from the well-titled album This Town Is Starting To Make Me Angry and the rather lovely Red Rooster.
Aye Slim: Was thinking about ya, thought I'd give you a shout. Was wondering if you'd send me your snail mail. ( YES, I had it, and it's lost among, the many papers and memoribillia )
* I remember what you and the wife said about ditching the guitar. lol . well I'm no Eric Clapton, but believe it or not, been learning allot. Finger picking comes kinda hard, but it's a work in progress. Taking Liberal Arts, at SUNY (State University of New York) here in a couple wks. At 52, school outta be quite a change for me.
Four more little sonic gems for your August pleasure are now available on the site. Blitzen Trapper, Boulder Acoustic Society, Jay Brannan and The Wiyos. Yet another fine quartet even though we say so ourselves as picked them out.
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
Hello, after an unfortunate hiatus, the reasons for which are probably best not gone into here, we finally have some new music on the AUK MySpace site. For your listening pleasure this month we offer Nathan Oliver, Conrad Ford, the irrepressible Todd Snider and the delightful Beccy Owen. Don't forget too, for those of you within striking distance of Leicester, Electric Dustbowl 2 on 19 September.
Hey, It's Dave Clupper. If I haven't told you thank you for your support yet, thank you! Check out the video below for a live clip shot from Downtown Tulsa with my daughter Ellen. Won't believe this one mate. My old lady ( young lady . the wife ) won a 2009 Chevy Malibu at a raffle at her workplace. Lowes Home & Garden Cnt. Outta 148 employees, she won the freakin car. Looks like we'll be riding in style to visit my lil Grand babe and kids, in Chicago, come July....
Hello, it's that time of the month again when we add more lovely music to our site. This month's happy foursome are The Barker Band in wistful mode, the summer of love-ish Old Californio, the anything but summer love-ish Christopher Rees and, wait for it..."Travelling Salesman's Young Wife Home Alone On Christmas In Montpelier, VT" from Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, which evenr if it was rubbish (and it's not) just had to be included for the names alone.
Aye Slim: I've been thinking of you. How did you fair in those horrendous wild fires? I pray you didn't lose anymore, than when we had last talked.
You'd be glad to know, I keep up with my guitar practice, and am slowing learning finger picking. As you might have guest, I'm a stubborn ol bloke, and new guitar players are a dime a dozen, but it's just something I have to get right. I realize I'll never be Kieth Richards, but if only I can pick out the strings, instead of the strumming sing alongs, I'd be happy... Song's I can finger pick.
Angels from Montgomery ( John Prine) Stones 'Wild Horses' House of the Rising son...( old standard, who can't play that song) lol
And some Neil Young. Rockin in the free world. Ohio, heart of Gold. Relatively easy songs. ntm: I've disected the songs, on my setlist, that actually sound okay, just being strummed. Oh what we call here. Jammin on some chords...
HOPE ALL IS WELL Your friend across the pond! Robert.
Send me a peep as time allows. PEACE. Waiting on my income taxes as I'd love to add your new CD to my collection... You and Baz really are great together, and I can only imagine the friendship, of yrs. of playing (smokin drinkin.. your a married man, so I wont add whoring to that list)
Ya know what I mean. Friends are hard to come by. True friends that is. Glad to add you to that list of folks, if only in cyberspace.
Itâs that time of the month and our site has four new tracks up for your listening enjoyment.
This monthâs box of delights include the swaggering groove of Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, the insanely catchy folk-pop of Antje Duvekot, the languid Great Lake Swimmers and, a little belatedly but better late than never, The Young Republic.
A particularly strong month, even if we do say so ourselves. Check them out, you won't regret it.
Ahoy Slim & Baz - Hope you're all good n happy over there - This kiwi busking caper has been unreal - and your Who Cares tune feeds me ! Am playing Next Time Cd to the folks at Mount Maunganui Sunday markets - You'll be happy to know they really like your songs here.
Kindest of regards and respect from Pete
PS: Yesterday penned a fun little tune called " Jake & Illona . " Heh, Heh, Heh !
Aye ye Slim: Had a great birthday. Didn't get too drunk, didn't get arrested, and the wifes all happy. Don't get any better than that.
Thank your Ms. for me, for the kind comments on my singing Poncho & Lefty... Love that story ( song )
Did I tell you I played my first open mike last Friday nite... My knees were knobby, but I got a few thumbs up... seems there were some Woody fans in the house... the stage fright is lessoning... I pray it stays that way.... Taking a stab at some writing.... My partner, wrote a sweet musical score, and I sent him some lyrics I wrote.... He jetted me back, said he loved it.. & he's not one to lie... Sometimes life can be hard, as he's not afraid of harsh critisim.....
Aye Slim: How goes it. Is summer almost over in Oz? Been doing some recording, with a friend. ( actually my guitar instructor) send me your e-mail and I'll send you a track. I'd like to get some of my own stuff, online.
Hey Hey! Awesome pic. Diggin the tough fake tattoo! Hah Hah. Can't believe I didn't find out about Jakes till so late in the game. I know where to head after hours next time I'm in Tamworth again!
