Influences

Musicians are influenced, to some extent, by everyone they've ever heard. The influences don't have to be genre icons, famous, or even especially good. There's something to learn from everyone. With that said, here are just a few of the more recognizable folks (in no particular order) that have had some influence on our individual styles and on our style as a band:

Gaelic Storm, Solas, Lunasa, The Chieftains, Eileen Ivers, Cherish The Ladies, Joanie Madden, The Battlefield Band, The Pogues/ Shane MacGowan, Silly Wizard, Andy M. Stewart, Stan Rogers, Ed Miller, Dervish, Bad Haggis, Natalie McMaster, John Doyle, Seamus Egan, Bonnie Rideout, Tommy Makem & The Clancy Brothers, The Irish Rovers, Planxty, Great Big Sea, Barleyjuice, Relativity, John Whelan, Joe Burke, Patrick Street, Andy Irvine, Paul Brady, Kevin Burke, Ged Foley, Alasdair Fraser, Martin Hayes

   About SlipJig

SlipJig believes that music should be as much fun as possible. Their music comes from the traditions of Ireland, Scotland, and other Celtic lands. It spans a range of styles from high-energy jigs and reels to ancient airs and ballads to raucous pub songs.

SlipJig plays with (mostly) traditional instruments in a (mostly) traditional style and while they make an effort not to break tradition, they admit to bending it on occasion. SlipJig is based in the Huntsville, Alabama area.

By the way, I like the tone of the mandolin in your video clips-- looks to be a Breedlove Quartz O.
Nice!

Hey, I can tell you this: It's tough! Scott Miller (my old bandmate from Redhill) placed 2nd at the Midwest fleadh on flute and also competed in the All Ireland on flute that year. Even though you have to beat everybody over here to even qualify for the All Irelands, few Americans even place, much less win. What's funny is that I had spent years playing box, not mandolin, and just decided to pick mando back up after not even owning one for 5 years.

Do you still have a regular session up there? I make it to the one in Auburn from time to time, I might head up there since gas is cheaper now!
