About me: 'A perfect tribute, absolutely spot on in true Kamikaze Slits fashion,' ***** Kris Needs, Record Collector.
'Zoe Street Howe redresses the balance with this warm and partisan page-turner. There are heroes, villains and some shocks too.' *** Mark Paytress, MOJO
'An ardent and vivid tale told with sheer verve', Janine Bullman, Loud & Quiet
NB: THIS IS THE BOOK PAGE - NOT THE BAND PAGE! I am not The Slits, but the author of the book. Just to clear up any confusion. THANKS!
AND PLEASE only add this page if you are actually interested in the Slits and this book, not if you are just advertising your own services - sorry if that sounds harsh but on this particular page we are not collecting friends for the sake of it, or looking to check out new bands...this page exists purely to promote the book, and we are working really hard on that (so we unfortunately don't have time to come down and check out your gigs etc. Especially if they're in the US- we're in London, you see!). Hope you understand...
Celebrate the 30-year anniversary of Cut AND the 50-year anniversary of Island Records with this appreciation of the career and legacy of The Slits written by London music writer Zoë Street Howe...
'Wild, defiant and startlingly inventive, The Slits were ahead of their time. Although they created some unique hybrids - dub reggae and pop-punk, African rhythms, funk and free jazz - they were dismissed as being unable to play. Their lyrics were witty and perceptive while their influential first album 'Cut' challenged perceptions of punk and of girl bands - but they were still misunderstood. And that infamous debut album cover, with the band appearing topless and mud-daubed, prompted further misreadings of the first ladies of punk. Author Zoë Street Howe speaks to The Slits themselves, to former manager Don Letts, mentor and PIL guitarist Keith Levene and many other friends and colleagues to discover exactly how The Slits phenomenon came about and to celebrate the legacy of a seminal band long overdue its rightful acclaim. Too long seen as a note in the margin of the history of rock, The Slits at last get a fair hearing.'

Published by Omnibus Press July 9th 2009. And the very fine group Wetdog's brill drummer Sarah edited the pictures. Which makes it EVEN MORE cool, I'm sure you'll agree.
Viv Albertine, August 2008: "The book, thank God, it's about time the Slits got the respect they deserve!"
Keith Levene: "It's important this is coming out around the anniversary (of Cut). Read about it, write about it, look at the fucking pictures. The Slits must have done something right, as far as I'm concerned."
What???...a book??? I thought I,s talking to the Slits...damn I thought I was in there then too...hahaha...just joking mate...yeah I realised it was a book (looks like a bloody good read too)...I,s just too lazy to write out your pages full name so I just through a shout out to the Slits in general...lol.

"DJ Monkey …soul-stirring, excitingly edgy music…just disturbing (read ‘mind-f**king’) enough to demand attention. There is a whole spice rack of auditory flavors here, served up like fractured poetry on a collection of intensely listenable Hallmark cards from Hell." Bill Margold, Cinema Seen, L.A. X..Press
