Sounds Like
We have heard these: Beat Happening, The Pixies, Blondie, Pavement, 75% of the Elephant 6, Daniel Johnston, The Beach Boys, The Raincoats, New York Dolly Partons, The Fall, Modern Lovers, Brian Eno, X, The Velvet Underground, Captain Beefheart, Deerhoof, Fiery Furnaces, Versus, Tall Dwarfs, Magnetic Fields, Brainiac, The Pastels, Ween, Dismemberment Plan, Minnie Moore, etc. What do YOU think?
Slobot formed when Kevin, Sherie, and Andrew were all undergraduating at LSU. Using fuzzed out guitars, a couple of cheap 80s keyboards (Casio, Yamaha) economic drumming, and catchy vocal harmonies, Slobot touches you with exciting pop/rock songs that make you want to dance, think, feel, drive, love, eat, bang your head, touch, clean up around the house, and much, much more.
Our 1st album "Slow Robot Ahead" is available on our website and at the Compact Disc Store in Baton Rouge!!! It was recorded by Fred Weaver, and is out on his Apocalypse the Apocalypse label (see the myspace site or www.apocalypsetheapocalypse.com).

Fainting in Coils
Apocalypse the Apocalypse
Concept albums are rare and misunderstood. The key element of what makes this type of album work is having each and every song flow into the next, yet retain individual song distinction – think Dark Side of the Moon. Baton Rouge band Slobot seems to understand this formula in their own unique way with the release of Fainting in Coils. In opening track “Airplane Bars,” a seemingly Sonic Youth inspired song plays itself out until mid-song when Sherie Slobot squeals in a long extended manner, giving rise to the experimental sounds and unorthodox song structure of the rest of the album. Bandmates Andrew Black and Kevin Hurstell all take turns with Miss Slobot rotating on all the varied instruments. Songs “Dave Fell in the Chocolate Box” and “Monster” are heavily art-rock influenced with a consortium of different drums, high pitched yelps and synethesized ambient noise. Conversely, “Cro-Magnon” is a pleasant slow-paced soft whispering song. “Fainting in Coils” creates an Arabian-like texture, making use of gongs, wooden percussion and chimes. The power of this album is its varied styles that seamlessly flow together… a musical accomplishment.

Hi there Slobot first of all we'd like to say thanks for being our myspace pal. We wanted to make sure you knew the reason incase we suddenly vanish off of your friends list. The movement we've started for indie artists has grown significantly and consumes all of our time these days. We seldom sign into our myspace account and this is making several people believe that we are ignoring them. We are not ignoring anyone, we wanted everyone to know that. What we're doing has become so busy we just don't have the time for myspace any longer, so in all honesty we are probably going to just close our myspace account.
Many people wanted to use us in the future so if you were one of those people make sure you bookmark the link below so that in the event that we do close our myspace account you won't loose contact with us. I wish you the best of luck in your music career. Thanks again for being our myspace pal.
Oh dearest Slobot... I once heard this story about a guy who was in a horrible car crash and he was trapped in his car, and the cassette player (yeah this is an old story, but clearly it stuck with me) kept looping the tape he had in there... Whatever Wham! album had "wake me up befor eyou go go" on it. Anyways, apparently after like 6 hours of bleeding and crushed bones someone got him out of there. Afterwards he said that the worst thing about the accident was that tape and that he couldn't shut it off.
If I was ever in an accident and one of the Slobot albums was in there looping for hours while I bled to death, I think I would be happy with the final music choice I'd have made.
