Ah Slovakia. We liked you so much more when you were just a peaceful mountainous backwater of the Hapsburg Empire, with your burgeoning little villages and ridiculous castles. But then the damn Ottomans had to go bust it into Hungary, causing them to move the royal seat to Bratislava, and, frankly, things haven’t been the same since. We’re bummed.
But YUSS, there’s some good tunes out there for when, whether from the rain in the sky or the drops in your eyes, you’re bummed and you don’t much wanna put on the apron and the heavy gloves and work the anvil all day. And we’ve got a sneaking suspicion that some pretty good clockwork in that vein is on its way from the wickedly non-Jannisary using kids in the Slovak Republic. That’s right, the band once known as Slovak Girl is hunkering down in bassist Steve Christensen’s home studio to do some mixing on their forthcoming LP.
The not yet titled but potentially named “Slovak Girl” full length was recorded in both a Midtown home-studio and at Sugarhill (and we’re told it may even include some old 4-track recordings from way back in the day) over the past few years. While the track-listing hasn’t been totally worked out, this is the sneak peak possible lineup that we were given:

6. Paris in the Spring
7. Stranded in Auschwitz
8. Wimbeldon Meth Lab

Sadly, you won’t be able to take this sonic European tour until perhaps September, when they expect the album to be ready. And with no shows on the calendar, we can’t tell you when you can go where to get in on a Chevy Chase burette escapade of your own. Fortunately, however, there are a few of these tracks up on the ubiquitous MySpace player for your streaming pleasurehood. We’re pretty stoked on what we’ve heard from these turners of the tide so far, and are looking forward to more.
