Slow down, Molasses started over the summer of 2006, at first it was just a few quiet songs and day dreams of lost blues and ocean songs. A couple tepid attempts at solo shows were made, Neil was covered, so was Low. Between these shows and a few too many late night’s out like minded co-conspirators were found, first drums, and keyboards, soon enough bass and banjo, lap steel and violin. Next thing I knew, this little half-baked attempt at independence was a band. Now a six piece consisting of members & ex-members of some of Saskatoon’s finest bands (No Birds, Carbon Dating Service, the blood lines, The Paper Kites, Fly Griffin Fly, dumb angel), there are still the same quiet melancholy songs, but now the occasional noisy excursion or anthemic build appears, letting lo-fi indie rock songs and alt-country rave ups sit nicely next to late night lullaby’s and a lazy falsetto drawl. Slow down, Molasses is a band. We have little ep out and a proper record on the way. We play in art galleries and cafes, dive bars and diners, maybe we’ll meet you there.
Slow down, Molasses has had the good fortune to play with such fine folks as Chet, The Acorn, Shuyler Jansen, Great Aunt Ida, Julie Doiron, Calvin Johnson, these hands, People for Audio, Eamon McGrath, The Weakerthans, Woodpigeon, Plants & Animals, and Torngat.

so we went on tour....and someone video taped of a bit of our set from edmonton...
Sounds like wind blowing in a wheatfield, train rolling down the line, rain coming down on a old tin shed, steel, wire and a rusty heart. Boots of leather and dust and ash. Mollasess and coal and stone. Wedding rings and buried bones of love broken and burnt. Tales and the footprints, ravenswings and souls are earnt."
thanks for adding. someday you may hear sounds coming out of our mouths. or at least be able to read an analytical term paper on myspace and its relationship to identity, music and performance.
Agreed, we should have a drunken bass player banter-off. Put them all in a room leave a few bottles of gin out, a few microphones, and something is bound to happen. Until then, no microphones for Fraser.
Hey Tyson, this is some pretty wild stuff you got going on here.. I look forward to seeing your next show whenever that may be, please let me know and I'll be there or else I'll be super square! haha
Aw Dang. I guess I can't blame them. Every Canadian musician should know who Neil Young's song. They have the right I guess. This might make me have to change my name or quit music all together.
I saw you guys at Field Fest. You were awesome! You definitely gained a fan. I also made you wait to play with that fancy metal version of two cups on a string that was on the apparatus. Sorry!
hopefully i didn't offend anyone with my blog post. i think your approach is alot more effective, and the music you make is the type of music that is great to hear in a live setting. i'm just too lazy and too shy and too self-conscious to put together a decent live show, so i'm trying to bypass it.
