Slowgun formed in the dark era of the early months of 2004. Although I’m and not sure if that’s true or not, the more we say it the more we can pretend that it is. Toni, the singer, desperate to play music again decided to beg her close musical friends to play music with her! Thinking that it wouldn’t be easy to persuade these musical cup cakes into joining her, she spent days and night thinking of clever ways to trick them into playing in her band, coming up with traps and mind bending trickery to get her way... None of her plans worked! Then after a lethal dose of pie and mash she decided just to ask and they all said yes!
" Sunny punk songs and precious lullabies that flash by in 60 seconds yet never leave your head." - The Windmill
"They sound like they’ve been around for ages but they are a mere babe in swaddling cloths. Songs of heartbreak and love and comic book heroes, dark of rhythm and hopeful of voice. Don’t miss."- The Windmill
"London quartet Slowgun peddle sunkissed pop songs which deal with subjects such as heartbreak, love and comic book heroes" - Channel 4 Unsigned (on tunetribe)
"Slowgun are a great two-girl two-boy combo with roots as broad and diverse as Velvet Underground and Josef K, Sonic Youth and Fiery Furnaces. This set is a breakneck collection of 2-3 minute songs, awkwardly instant. Even their squally finale is wild rather than angry, with the reassuring lyric "I don’t hate you". Slowgun have flown onto a superbly eccentric orbit all of their own. Keep that comet coming!" - RF Opposition T
When New Wave came out it was apparantly as fabricated as New Rave, so cool people like Richard Hell and Lydia Lunch invented No Wave to counter it - according to my book "The Idiot’s Guide To No Wave". However! SLOWGUN have that No Wave vibe, but because they are literally a new band, does that mean they are New No Wave? Aaaarghhhh!! RATING: SHEEPS BRAINS - ALFONZOS DEMO KITCHEN
