   About Slowly Building Weapons

END: July 13, 2008 – We would like to announce that after 6 long years since our first beginnings, Slowly Building Weapons have decided to call it a day. We have always set very high standards for everything we put our name to, and it has become obvious in recent months that we no longer have the drive required to continue the battle. So we have decided that rather than continuing in a less committed way, now is a good time to walk away while we are still on a positive note. From the early days playing weeknight shows at the Arncliffe Hotel, to signing to Soviet Records and recording our album at the amazing 301 studios in Sydney, we have plenty of good memories and achievements to look back on and exaggerate greatly.

Slowly Building Weapons have never been a band that received a great deal of support, especially in our home city, so we’d like to sincerely thank the people who have helped us along the way. Those people know who they are, so making a big list of acquaintances and crucial bands to show how cool we are shouldn’t be necessary. I would however like to like to say special thanks to Tim, Mike, Andrew, Carl, Dugo, Tyson, Al, Brett and Jase. A final big thanks goes out to anyone to has ever supported SBW by coming along to a show or by purchasing a CD or a t-shirt.

We will be organising a final show in Sydney in the coming months so if you have ever been a fan or friend of the Slowlies, you should come out for one last round of blood vomits.

Cheers!

Presto and SBW

KILLYOURSTEREO.COM SAYS: "SBW’s debut full length is 40 minutes of some of the most epic, memorable and tortured music an Australian band has put out in a very long time." (rating 90/100)

TSUNAMI MAGAZINE SAYS: "At their hardest, Slowly Building Weapons sound like a sludgier Converge, providing the soundtrack to a mass suicide. On the other side of the coin, the distortion gives way to off-kilter melodies and flowing ambience, and these two extremes co-existing and gelling so well with one another makes for a highly unique listening experience. This is without a doubt one of the more interesting releases to come out of Australia in 2007, and in a year of new Mindsnare and Virgin Black records, that's saying something - especially for a debut full-length" (rating: 9/10)

DEATH BEFORE DISHONOUR MAGAZINE SAYS: "Nausicaa sounds fucking huge, and has an atmosphere so thick you'd swear it'd crush your lungs if you dared try and breathe it in. Slowly Building Weapons deliver carefully planned and devastating songs"

DRUM MEDIA MAGAZINE SAYS: "With the split of Hospital The Musical earlier this year, Soviet's roster was looking decidedly light in the metal department, but with this release (Nausicaa), it's hard to think of another indie label with such heavy artillery at their disposal""

ARTHUR TERRACE ZINE SAYS: "Slowly Building Weapons first full length album Nausicaa, showcases the bands incredible musicianship, with huge chords and intense ambiance building bass, SBW manage to subject their audience to a unique experience that leaves you truly stunned by how emotive the thirty-nine minutes and forty-five seconds of music you just listened to is. (Rating: 4/5)"

BOMBSHELLZINE.COM SAYS: "While screaming does absolutely nothing for my ears, you can appreciate the musicianship shown in the tracks. Creative, yes, noisy, yes."

BLUNT MAGAZINE SAYS: "You won't find many young Australian outfits that bring the doom and gloom quite like these tortured Sydney chaps (rating: 7/10)"

OUR LABEL SAYS: "Sydney-siders SLOWLY BUILDING WEAPONS hit home with their debut full length “Nausicaa”, released on Soviet Records. “Nausicaa” sees the brutal four piece expanding the depth of their doom laden hardcore - experimenting with soundscapes, and incorporating elements of contemporary and classical composition into their intricate tapestry of concepts. Sweeping movements give way to monstrous chords whilst cello and squeezebox converse, complementing the ferocity of the band’s trademark sound with incredible moments of both beauty and bitterness."

WE SAY: Nausicaa was Recorded and Mixed by Tim Carr and Mike Morgan from Soviet Records at Studios 301 in Sydney, and Mastered by Alan Douches (CONVERGE, CURL UP AND DIE, DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN) at West West Side Music in New York.
