Sly Roosevelt's music features complex vocal arrangements that provide a thick chorus effect. The music spans the horizons of space vibe, garage, indie rock, and punk, coupled with introspective, stream of consciousness lyrics and wrapped tightly in a raw indie experimental ribbon. The music also possesses unconventional percussion elements, including a jingle baton attached to a pedal, appropriately or inappropriately named Silencia.
Sly Roosevelt is a six-piece band from Huntington, West Virginia. Formed in 2008, its original members included Sean McDaniels (guitar, vocals), Alexander Durand (bass), Matthew Marshall (drums), and Brian Graham (keys). In the winter of 2008, Brian left to pursue a journalism career. The band played as a three piece until summer 2009 when Aimee Schmalz joined as a back-up vocalist. Soon after, Jyosh Sanders and Megan Shoub came aboard as lead guitarist and keyboardist respectively.
